If he's there, he is my #1 choice for the Cardinals: over Ingram, over Reiff, over Floyd, over Glenn, over Kuechly.

Reason 1: He is a day one starter, and should contribute the most of any of options still available to the Cardinals at #13 overall IMO. To get a very good and potentially pro-bowl caliber player who can contribute from day one should be a Cardinal priority. How many times have we waited several games or even seasons for our first-rounders to eventually contribute? Getting a full five-year contribution should trump getting less than that.

Reason 2: As Chopper has posted, the guy has NO issues, no character concerns, no injury concerns, no change of position concerns, no new offense to learn, no me-first prima donna complex, yadda, yadda, yadda.

Reason 3: The Cardinals offensive line has been a weakness for years. How about adding at least one component who is plug and play for the next FIVE years?!? At the least it adds some continuity to the unit. If that was a reason to bring back Levi, it's also a reason to draft DeCastro.

Reason 4: He is the least risky choice in my opinion. There is something to be said for making the 'safe' choice. Why take a flyer on one of the other three guys who probably won't contribute right away to the same extent and who may or may not develop into a solid contributor over time? If you want to gamble, go to Vegas. Play it safe and draft a potential pro-bowler at an area of weakness.

I keep hoping Reiff will fall to use, have seen him as high as #7 (I even saw him in a mock at #3 ahead of Kalil) then see him taken in the low teens and high twenties. Since I don't know much at all about College players other than what I read, it does seem the only reason DeCastro falls is not due to talent, but due to the low grade of his position. If he were an OT he would probably go ahead of Kalil.....so DeCastro works great for me....

I don't think it makes a big difference what our board is between Ingram, Reiff, Decastro and Floyd. Chances are pretty decent that EXACTLY one of them will be there. Who knows which one. There could be none or two, very unlikely 3 or all 4, but I bet there will be just one, so we just take the one that's left.

If he's there.

I'd peg those odds at 25 - 30%.

I'd put it around 50%, Jeff. The only team that is likely to pick him is KC, and they could easily go DLine and there is specualtion about Tannehill, too for them. Plus they just picked up a legit OL, in RT Winston. The bigger question is, do the Cards like him? It's pretty clear that almost everyone on this board likes him. And when you think about that, it is really amazing. How often does nearly an entire fanbase agree that we should take A GUARD in the first round.

Very well stated, and I totally agree with drafting David DeCastro. I find myself truely torn between him and Ingram just because I put so much of a priority on pass rushers. Honestly, I would be thrilled with either one.

Also, it will probably never happen, but I believe if you put DeCastro at RG and Levi Brown at RT, you would have one of the best "right sides" in the NFL. I think those two would complement/push each other very well and you would a have a right side that would dominate games.

Ingram seems to be 'falling' and I'm not sure why. Both Somers and Jurecki think the Cardinals take Reiff over DeCastro which I totally disagree with. I'm not sure Reiff gets past Buffalo, but the rumor is they don't like him.

No matter what I hope we trade out of #13 with either Dallas or Philly who both covet Mark Barron, and pick up an extra pick.

you know, looking at the guards drafted in the first round: Steve Hutchinson is the exception rather than the rule

I see little chance that Floyd drops to us unless he totally screwed up in his interviews. Jax, Buffalo, even Seattle could use him.

All three have the "dreaded" short arms syndrome. I hope all of them fall to 13, where I would take any one, short arms and all. Even better if Dallas or Philly is willing to give something up for us to move down a spot or two.

I think it's because Buffalo knows they have a second-round pick and there'll be a guy nearly as good waiting for them, be it Cordy Glenn, Mike Adams, Mitchell Schwartz, etc. with the 41st overall pick.

Wish we still had the 46th pick in the draft, because one of those guys likely would've been available for us, too.

That is because first rond costs were higher and most players who are drafted from college to play OG in the NFL played OT in college and so there is a transitional phase. Most 1st round OGs were OGs in college as well and demonstrated a dominant level of play.

Also with the increase in edge pressure and rush packages it has become as important to set the front of the passing pocket allowing an area for QBs to "slide" up in the pocket to escape edge pressure.

In the end, it is always a need in the first round of a draft to take players who play the majority of their units snaps, and in my opinion, OGs are not an exception to this philosophy.

Yeah, late 1st and early 2nd rounds are really where you would get the most value for this classes top OT prospects in comparison to other players available 1-20.

Yeah, having that second-rounder would change a lot of calculations. It really makes it even more critical not to screw up our first-round pick IMO.

I'm on the decastro bandwagon. For me it's decastro, Floyd, or trade down.

I'm good with at least 4-5 more at #13 including Whitney Mercilus.

Who I think is underrated and will be a very go...oops nevermind :stick:

Some of the Bleacherreport writers put in the time and bring a reasonable amount of knowledge to their reports. After reading his Vontaze comment I'm inclined to think this guy isn't one of their more astute writers. I wouldn't hedge on my DeCastro opinion based on anything this guy said.

Burfict had three excellent seasons at ASU, playing against some powerhouse offenses
