Holy hell, our offensive linemen can't even block a guy in front of their face, let alone run 3 steps to the left, turn & block a gap-shooting linebacker. Defenses have read this play perfectly now in both pre-season games & stuffed the runners back behind the line or at the line on every single stretch play attempt we've made so far.

Bring it back to fundamentals... line up and kill the guy in front of you. If you can't even do that, you're not going to win many football games.

Unfortunately that's Edge's bread and butter.

Now don't panic it's game two of the preseason with our FA superstar openly yawning at it.

I agree they run it terrible now, that's why they practice it, but it's preseason folks, it's preseason.

I'd like to draw conclusions from it too but you just can't wait to see what happens in a live game then bring out the slings and arrows.

Plus the OL is learning a brand new scheme as well. It does take time and its only the 2nd game they have been able to run it live, and only the 2nd time all offseason they have run it at all against a 3-4. And becuase it is new to them they should continue to try it, especially in preseason. Preseason is the time to try, try, and try again.

I will say this though. Davis seems like a man on a mission so far this preseason. He is just blowing up anyone in front of him. And the OL seems to be a lot more on the ball when it comes to penalties. So I think they are better coached without question, now we just need to see if the new scheme comes to them or not.

Step is really killing this line, he is really hurting them big time. The guy sucks hardcore, and screws everthing up like he did today on both of Edges runs.

One final thought. Edge average do go up this week. At least he got to the line of scrimmage this week. Now lets see if we progress to getting him past the line of scrimmage.

I'd expect them to suck this time of year, new coach, new scheme facing the Patriots on the road with Edge hardly trying, it's not a recipe for pleasant suprises.

I like that our defense held the Patriots to mostly field goals, they kept firing bullets but we stood up ok.

Our offense just did not get on track, there was a few mistakes that stopped drives and that caused a huge time of possession disparity.

I agree about Step, that dude just brings everything down, I really hope they give up on him or something, jeez we need some line help for the RT spot, then put Wells in the Center spot.

Wells is either a Center or a Tackle, he's not a guard IMO.

That's my impression too, the real weakness on this OL is inside and in particular at C. Not that I think Leckey is great or anything but my impression is he whiffs a lot less than Step does. I don't know all the schemes and assignments but it just seems to me the most common sight for Step is him turning and looking back like "was I supposed to block that guy?"

I'm going to add nothing expect agreement with Russ and Joe here.

Leckey may get pushed around, but atleast he gets a shot at the guy infront of him. He HITS his blocks. It's like Step is trying to grab air out there and it's hurting us.

Please start Leckey.

He just seems to be bad, you'd hope someone else sees that, at least let's hope if they do see it they have a way to fix it, the last thing I want to see is him starting and still doing that come the regular season.

That happening is going to pop my bubble if nothing else will, that would mean our coach is an idiot or, there's no better alternative, either way we're toast this year.

Just like in the Fiesta bowl a couple years ago :jedi: . The thing we don't know is whether Step in the best/smartest guy to make all the line calls. I'll bet that's the main reason he's starting and Wells hasn't been moved over. I agree that Step and Leckey are more backup type players but they are the best we have right now. Ability-wise, i think the best OL would be Big, MB, Wells, EB, Ross but they may be lacking the mental aspect to get the offense running how the coach wants it.

It's not as if the stretch play is the culprit - we haven't exactly been setting the world on fire with ISO stuff either.

Different plays have different blocking schemes. Our O-linemen will have to learn to execute them. Either they will or they won't. If they can't, why are they here?

Equally valid question - Why can other teams put together offensive lines seemingly with duct tape and chewing gum and somehow piece together some semblance of a running attack - and we can't?

How can this be possible when he is the one making the calls!! He damn well better know who he is supposed to block.
