I don't CARE what Carlos Quentin, Emilio bonifacio, orlando hudson or any EX-Dback did.

It doesn't MATTER.

move on.

This team/coach is frustrating enough with out every other post/thread bemoaning "The savior that got away"

Why? This is a baseball forum and we should be able to talk about baseball. It's not like anyone is verbally attacking other people who post here.

This is not knocking you but I don't see why we can't have civil conversations about the mistakes the Diamondbacks have made? It's part of the game. As long as it doesn't get ugly between the posters, I don't see why not.

At least this forum is picking up now that the Suns are done. I mean the talk here is tame compared to the Suns forum.

This forum is for ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS.

Says so on the front.

Adam Dunn, Bonifaco, Hudson, Quentin - they are NOT DIAMONDBACKS.

If you want to follow their seasons, start a thread in the smack forum like the Laker fans do.

Discussing mistakes is one thing. TO obsess, and post daily updates on ex-Diamondbacks is STUPID, POINTLESS and detracts from those of us that are focused on the PRESENT, not a bunch of shoulda coulda wouldas

You move onto the future by learning about the past, and the Dbacks have given up on good young players, which is about to happen again with Upton cause he sits one day, then goes 0-4 another and then sits two days and then is told to hit his way into the lineup the next, if you can't see it your blind.

Young players have been set up to fail under Bob Melvin. If Stephen Drew were elsewhere, he'd be an MVP candidate. If Conor Jackson were elsewhere, he'd be a batting title contender, if Reynolds were somewhere else, he'd hit 40 bombs, and when the organization gives up on Upton, we are going to see him get great too.

Bonafacio, Barden, Drew, Jackson, Upton, Reynolds, Young, Quentin are all in similar boats, and what I've seen from Quentin and what I am seeing in Bonafacio is frustrating, cause the team is trying to play an ancient Tony Clark, a crappy Eric Byrnes, and others that hinders the development of young players.

Drew developed because he was put at SS everyday, even though some days Ojeda may have been better. Quentin, Upton, Young, and Reynolds have all had their strings pulled from different directions not allowing them to settle in and produce.

What kind of message does that send to Reynolds and Upton when they are not in the starting lineup opening day? Give me a ****ign break. Webb got the start dispite his struggles in spring didn't he?

DBacks and Suns are both falling apart because of the lack of Colangelos.

Colangelos allowed for the development of Drew, Webb, and the beginning of Young...

Colangelos also allowed Barbosa to stink up the joint and let Joe Johnson run point for half a season and Amare to practice things in game situations. People who don't understand the athletic and mental side of sports are running the Arizona sports teams, all they understand is the money side....

Interesting. For every other team on here discussion of which players are no longer on the team or were not drafted is allowed. Is discussion of Adrian Peterson or Leonard Davis off limits in the Cards forum?

While the current front office might not have their act straight, the idea that Jerry Colangelo could come in here and fix things, that he would have developed ANY young players is absurd. The whole concept of a Colangelo team was expensive, old, and must have played for the Cubs at one point.

Yup. I see absolutely no reason for batting Upton 8th, ahead of the pitcher.

That's the spot usually reserved for a weak hitting Catcher or Shortstop, who is in the lineup because of his defense.

For a young player, it is a kiss of death. He'll never see good pitches to hit.

Unless Justin Upton is a head case incapable of developing (or with a Manager and Hitting Coach incapable of developing him), he should be hitting ahead of a somewhat feared hitter.

That's why I wanted to see him bat 3rd ahead of Adam Dunn last season. He did for two games and came alive. Then he was immediately dropped in the order and has never been the same.

Don't tell me you have never gotten sick of the 500th "we should have drafted Adrian Peterson thread"....

And I guess one difference is those don't seem to be the only active topics...

I think organizational blunders like Q are pretty interesting with this org. I am noticing the Diamondbacks are still pushing Byrnes, I think they would love nothing more than to have Upton fail so they can reap the short term gate Byrnes a 33 yo would bring with their older fan base, squashing history will aide that goal, JMO.

THENKYEW!

Jon, sorry, if the reason no other threads here are active (other than FIRE Bob Melvin!) there may be a reason -- and people vote with their posts, so to speak -- if you want to designate a thread as 'No nostalgia allowed' -- fine, and perhaps it'll really get a lot of activity.

For me, very sad to say, the DBacks are 'The Team That Got Away,' as well as the young players I hope will get free before they are permanently ruined.

You can't honestly believe this, can you? Do you really think that they want one of, if not the most decorated prospect to ever come through their system, to fail?

I think they have no idea of how to make Upton successful.

D-backs suck.

That's because Upton may or may not have a brain capable of learning anything. Blaming his utter ineptitude at the plate all on his manager, coach and spot in the lineup is absolving the player of any responsibity.

I'm with Dbak Jon on reading whining about having lost players. It's tedious and resolves nothing. It's wallowing in self pity.

Fire Melvin. Okay, I'm ready to jump on board. Fire the pitching coach too. But nothing will bring us back Quentin.

I agree on both sides. It really doesn't matter what former Dbacks are doing now, but it is kind of fun to think about "what if". :)

How about if we have a 'whine alert' so those who prefer can just hop over those posts?

What no one seems to realize is that THESE YOUNG PLAYERS CAN'T GET PITCHES TO HIT WITHOUT PROTECTION.

Quentin would be no where near the player he is in Chicago if he was still here. In Chicago they have legitimate guys around him that have allowed him to blossom. Our vet presence is a couple fringe guys like Byrnes and Tracy. Or gasp Tony Clark.

You think its a coincidence that Drew and Young and even Upton began ti come around with a guy like Dunn in the line up? Our pitching lost that last month for us - not the offense.

What a joke. You can't run out a minor league all star team and expect them to be become some sort of offensive force. Batting Upton 8th is inconceivable to me.

The Diamondbacks have proven to be a team concerned about staying afloat and are almost all about the near term, they have a ton of payroll wrapped into has beens that occupied fan attention span, they need to replace that. Eric Byrnes is a career .250ish hitter, yet Arizona signs him after one hot streak, why? Near term gates for a fan favorite. When Upton leaves and flourish we can take solace in around Felipe Lopez's hot start, over inflated contract and another thread like this lol.

Yeah I thought about them as well.

Pena, Crawford, and Floyd are better hitting vets then any of our guys. And Evan Longoria is better then anyone we have period.

PLus that team was no offensive powerhouse. They won based on their pitching and the exceptional coaching they got.

Im not saying we cant win (i.e. 2007) its just that we won't realize these young guys offensive potential without guys around them. Only excpetional cases thrive (Longoria)

I think this team needs a guy like Dunn to solifidy the lineup. If we keep having Connor back Young to back Drew to back Upton none of those guys are going to develop like we want.
