What do you think we should do with the sub forums?

Now that we have new ownership at ASFN, I'd like to change some things on this forum that have annoyed me.

1. I hate the Sub Forums for Trades and Other NBA Talk. Any thread that starts in a sub forum gets minimal attention and anything that gets moved there quickly dies. This place isn't RealGm with constant crazy trade ideas thrown around. Any trade idea could easily be prefaced with a "Trade Idea:" tag. The same for other NBA Talk as an OT tag works fine on the Cardinals board.

2. While we're at it, let's get rid of the old stickies that aren't needed and haven't been posted in for years like the "Game Links" and "No Video in Sigs" that were both made for Andrew.

I created a poll for the Sub Forum thing. Hopefully a mod can make it happen if a majority votes for it.

There is too much clutter at the top... I don't even scan the subforums any more nor the stickies. Please whittle away.

I have suggested at least several times over the years that I would like for the Sub Forums be removed from the Suns Forum. IMO, this would increase poster traffic because topics go stale there. I seldom visit stickies.

I have always hated the sub-forums and considered them a form of censorship, because moderators in the past have been very arbitrary about what gets to remain in the main forum and what gets exiled to the sub-forums where no one sees them. I have complained about this to the board's administrators many times, although not recently, since I was told that my opinions were unwelcome. In my opinion the sub-forums should never have been created in the first place and getting rid of them would be a distinct improvement.

I don't care about the stickies one way or the other.

If memory serves, the sub forums were created because we had Laker fans posting topics/discussions about their team and annoying the rest of the board and we had some dummies who posted their ridiculous trade ideas countless times. So I'm fine with them going away, but careful what you ask for as that stuff is likely to raise it's ugly head again. Just look what happened to the board over the weekend.

The amount of volume on this board and in this forum doesn't support sub-forums at all. They may have been needed at one time but they aren't needed now.

Agreed about the sub forums. Stuff gets sent there randomly and there it dies. Get rid of them, if people dont care about a thread topic thats about the NBA but not necessarily about the Suns, then they dont have to click.

Of course, if Ronin keeps making 30 threads a day about anything and everything...

Hey guys,

I forwarded this thread to Iceman, the new admin, and he made the changes to the board that you see so far. He asked if there were any other ideas that we would like to see.

Will the Larry Fitzgerald logo with "Are you ready" ever be changed or updated?

Fitz is a great guy and makes sense why it's there but it's kinda getting old, something new would be nice.

Maybe just a nice high graphic logo with the best player from each of the Arizona sports teams? Idk I'm just throwing it out there.

I tried to stop that from happening by creating an annual official Lakers thread for all Lakers talk but the overly-sensitive Suns' fans (other mods in this case) couldn't even accept that so we now discuss our team in the Smack Shack. :D

I know, but I thought I'd remind some and inform others why the practice started in the first place. People sometimes look at things that are done and although the practice works as it was designed, nothing is without flaws. Over time they start to focus on the flaws and want the practice discontinued. The original problem than comes back. Wheels go round in circles.

The sub forums are a pain to scroll past every time when you refresh the page. Especially on a mobile phone.

The sub forums have been cleaned up a bit at the top which was nice but now the "Latest Threads" clutter on the right side of the page seems much worse. It is like a whole list of topics that are not Suns related on the Suns forum. Actually it is like having more unrelated sub forums.

I agree. If anyone is listening/ reading, please get rid of that monstrosity.

I assume it has to be for more ad revenue. Draw the eye to other parts of the screen. No one could possibly think that we would like this.

Honestly, I would bet that 99% of the people here have adblock installed and can't see "adds" at all. User Information and Latest Thread sections provide no value to anyone.

Too much clutter takes away from visual appeal. I'm hoping ASFN rethinks the matter.

It strikes me as clutter too. But it's just trying to make it easier on posters that involve themselves in other boards here. Additionally, it's probably trying to generate interest in the other boards. I suspect it will grow on us in time (those of us that use more than the Suns forum) but it might have more value if you could block out certain forums. For example, Phoenix will freeze over before I'll ever want to read a soccer thread so those will always just be noise to me.

It is annoying

I try to not react negatively to something new just because it is new.

But reducing your thread width by over 25% to add a 4" width of impertinent information is annoying.

I use my bookmarks bar at the top of my screen to access the boards I want to view. I don't really need the overkill of seeing of all your board's latest posts.

I commend the new owner and mod's for trying something new, but this one detracts from the esthetics of your boards.

One man's opinion.
