So Summer League starts tomorrow, but I haven't seen anything from League Pass. I thought they usually offer it free to convince people to sign up for the big package...

We need to scour NBA TV scheduling. However, I haven't done it yet.

I like having Jack Cooley on the team. He's played on the Summer Suns before, and last year he absolutely torched us in the Summer League while playing for the Kings.

Check out this Summer League top 10 rotation:

Okobo Harrison
Bridges Reed
Jackson King
Bender Peters
Ayton Cooley

That second string lineup is pretty solid, and the starters are (hopefully) going to be a lot of fun to watch!

Pretty sure that team is capable of beating the 2018/19 Cleveland Cavaliers by a score of... 126-42.

I'm not buying that. Couldn't he have an intensive workout program that included time with the coaching staff and teammates, even if he wasn't going to play in the games?
You might have a point if they suggested that he has already shown enough and thus he doesn't need to play. That would be about as much of a smokescreen as they could possibly come up with.

Ultimately what the team cares about more than anything with these young guys is that they are improving in the offseason and if Chriss has a good thing going at the moment I don't see the value in forcing him to leave it to go do some practices with less than the whole team anyways.

The other angle with this is that maybe it would be asking way too much for him physically to play in practices and continue the workout plan he is doing. Therefor they have to chose between one or the other and they chose to let him keep doing his workout plan.

Yeah I agree. Seems very odd. I don't think he's in the plans going forward.

This front office hasn't put up an effective smoke screen yet. I highly doubt their first has to do with Chriss. Everyone knows we tried moving him at the draft already, what's changed? Nothing. We're not going to come out and say we're openly shopping him and don't plan on him being a part of the team going forward. Every other GM probably knows that already but keeping it from the public is business as usual for the Suns or any NBA team.

Keeping him off the summer league doesn’t really help teams gauge his value though. Wouldn’t it make sense to put him in a position where he SHOULD dominate be in our best interest if we are really trying to move him?

Only other opportunity, and this is a long shot, is that there is already a deal on the table and the team that is trading for him (or even the Suns) doesn’t want him to play and possibly get injured.

Yeah I agree with this. That’s as flimsy a smokescreen as I’ve ever seen.

Yeah I thought about the trade angle also. I think that’s viable but I wonder what’s causing the delay.

I'm not expert on restricted free agency, but maybe it involves other players that are hindered by certain dates -- maybe the other team is waiting to see if there are other deals out there to be made. This is all speculation of course.

Yeah I don't see many or maybe even any trades happening until the free agency dust settles. That could be very soon though.

Yeah that’s a pretty strange reason. Are the Suns saying that Bender and Jackson don’t have other intensive workout training in their hometowns and that only Chriss does which why those two are participating and Chriss isn’t?

An argument could be made that Chriss needed summer league and familiarity with the new coaching staff a lot more than Jackson and Bender did.

Knight really wants to make this work, it sounds like. The guy does have talent. I wonder if his mindset can really change.

Working with the SL team is a big step in the right direction. This is the same guy who was mad he didn't get named as the starter before the season started 2 years back and didn't accept a bench role. Now he's willing to work with our SL players to impress our new coach and develop some chemistry. If nothing else it lends some credence to the reporting about him being a completely new person and turning over a new leaf.
