Good news. Butler just got suspended indefinetley for walking out of the walk through when he was informed he wouldn't be the starter.

The odds of the Heat trading him before the deadline just went way down, because now they don't have to pay him.

did beal take it better than nurk did? like more maturely? or is beal more comfortable knowing he has all the cards and $50+ a year regardless?

cuz with nurk it's different - losing the starting gig here likely means losing starting gigs period - à la jae crowder

that's got to be harder to deal with - especially after nurk's extension - but you can't sit home and pout it out or blame it on bud - who was 100% right for making the change(s)

Gambo said the Suns are looking at 20 different trades.

I don't know what that means, I think it means the Suns have proposed that many, but nobody is interested.

I hope the Suns are looking at different trades other than Butler.

Also, they now have three first round draft picks to work with, not that I want them to use them all.

Replacing Nurkic on the roster and depth upfront would seem like an easier lift.

IDK, I worked at a military base and this doesn't sound that far fetched. Hardly any of the soldiers ever talk to the base commander. They have their own supervisors (in this case assistant coaches) that train them and tell them their role in the mission of their unit. I know civilians work at regular jobs and have at least met the boss in smaller companies. I worked for some large corporations and never met the real boss. Even bosses just a couple layers up even. It's not that weird when you really think about it. Some of those corporations I could say the same thing as Nurkic. I know they may not be buddies, but I am willing to bet Bud has met every player in that locker room. Does he have to interact with them every single day. Probably not. Look at all the travel they do, coaches studying game films, etc. They say it's hard to get a regular practice in. I could see in the course of a season where the head coach might not talk to a guy for a month or two, especially if they have been out with an injury and are in with the training staff each day.
How many players are on a basketball team? How many that see regular court time? To not have any interaction with your coach for a couple months is absolutely absurd. As someone who has coached a lot of teams I can’t fathom not speaking to any individual player for two months. And as pros they’re together like 5-6 days a week and traveling together. It’s just nuts.

I feel like that HAS to be an exaggeration, like there is no way that the team doesn't watch film and practice with the coach trying to correct players.

Maybe they have not spoken one on one?

Regardless though, Nurkic has been absolutely awful, he needed to be benched. He's never been a "plus" player but between our attempt to change our scheme or his weight loss or just time, he's been unplayable.

But, IMO, if you change a players role, you should talk to them.

I feel like it's one on one and has been this whole time. Of course we don't know for certain but we also don't know Nurkic meant it to the degree it's been taken. Anyone who has played team sports or coached team sports knows that it's virtually impossible for it to be so extreme that they haven't spoken at all in over 2 months because there have been practices and film sessions. Unless we also want to take it to the extreme that either Nurkic and Bud haven't participated together in the same sessions, which is absolutely bananas.

This. It's absolutely absurd. Oh, and if you listen to the interview about it, he said there was "communication" but that could simply be notifying him your getting benched. Communication is a broad term. There is a difference between "communication" and having conversations with your players. We will never know the all the background details. It's possible Nurk was a big part of the lack of communication but I hate hearing crap like this. It's never good for the team.

Good. Anything that will stop trading for Butler.

Maybe not. Evidently, reports say Miami has come way down on their asking price for Butler which will make it easier for a multi-team trade scenario. Evidently, Miami is very active in trying to move him now.

Why do you think it is an exaggeration - there is like 20 assistants - direct communication can easily be avoided.

are we watchable again?

Significantly better. They had about 40 minutes of good basketball last night. Some of the third quarter was a bit rough, and they had some stupid turnovers. I remember them throwing the ball away three times in a row. KD and Beal really try some weird passes. Other than that, the offense was moving really well, and the even played some good defense at times.
