Suns AND Hornets want to hire Demps as GM

The Suns are targeting Dell Demps, Spurs’ vice president of basketball operations, as our new GM. Apparently, he's torn between choosing us or the Hornets.

I understand he's supposed to be a pretty good talent evaluator. What do you all think?

I understand he's supposed to be a pretty good talent evaluator. What do you all think?

I'd definitely like him, but I think his reservations about the Suns would be what will keep any good GM from coming here. I am afraid we will get a second tier GM candidate.

If we do get Dell Demps, I hope he doesn't dump us into deep doldrums.

This all depends on Dell's relationship with Babby. Babby is Tim Duncan's agent, so I'm sure they've had some experience together. The autonomy that he'd have with the Hornets gig has to be appealing, but I think that the Suns are a better situation. Sarver might be a bad owner, but we're in significantly better financial shape than the Hornets. If push comes to shove and they have to trade Chris Paul of 50 cents on the dollar, Demps probably won't get another job.

right, babby is supposed to be the capalogist. we need a talent evaluator. not a good sign that demps chose hornets over suns. but this may be the lot we lead under sarver for a long time.

This wasn't as simple as Hornet vs Suns, and he took the Hornets.

It was the reporting structure. All things being equal I think he most certainly would have almost taken the Suns role.

But Babby is going to play a big part here, and Demps wanted control. He earned it and was ready. I don't fault him and don't think its a slight against the Suns at all. In fact its a good sign that he was "torn" being the difference in autonomy in these two roles.

And Yes I wanted Penn too. Hopefully this works out as I think he would be a good match with what Babby brings to the table.
