God I wish this was the same game as it was in the late 80s to mid 90s, we would have flagrant fouled Roy's ass to stop him from scoring and it would have just been a personal foul...

I'm very disappointed. We had the game in control mid-3rd, and even regain a good lead late 4th. Our defence is BS, can't get a stop when we need it most.

I'm pissed off totally!

Cmon guys we played good and Portland is a very good team. It was a matter of who's way the shots were gonna go to and it went to Portland this time. Yea we made a couple of mistakes but its not worth it to ruin chemistry over them. Tough loss we have gotten over worse this year and we better get over this one. Amar'e and Shaq had a good game JSun had a good game offensively, Barbosa and Barnes played very well, Lopez sucked along with Nash, and Amundson did ok I am just dissapointed Dudley got no play time, again.

These one-sided posts always make me laugh. It's not like the Blazers were the standard of defensive stops tonight either. Offensive rebounding was what killed us tonight, but Portland could barely play defense against us either.

The defense on Roy was just awful in the 3rd. It only seemed like the Suns noticed him going off until late in the 3rd and by then he was on such a roll that it didn't matter who was guarding him.

Nash is still a top PG in the league but tonight he was just awful. We seemed to play better when he was out of the game. When is the last time you can say that about this team?

There are some issues that this team needs to work on (having some defensive effort, rebounding, not turning the ball over) but I attribute some of that to the adjustment to new personnel as well as a new coach. However, in saying that, this offense has the potential to be unstoppable

Had the SUNS won would we still have seen this brilliant post?
I think not.....nice timing on a night when Roy goes off for 50+ and the SUNS lose a tight one on the road.

Im so glad you're a psychic and know what Im going to post if results had been different, you're amazing!

Yes, I would've rolled my eyes at Porters defensive teachings even if the Suns did pull out a narrow win, because the defense was poor. Why was the defense poor? Because the Suns have poor defensive players- shocking! This whole notion that if you have a coach who just shouts "play defense HARDER! HRRRR" and whamo- you're a defensive team, is ridiculous.

Lets look at the Suns starting lineup and rate them from 1-5 (5 being the best) as how they rate for their position on defense:

Nash 1.5
Richardson 2
Barnes 3
Stoudemire 2
O'Neal 2

Would you say thats fair? The Suns have almost all below average to terrible defenders. Thus, their defense is bad. This notion that the porous defense if D'Antoni's fault or is something Terry Porter is going to solve is silly.

When it all comes down to it, its just one game and it wasn't a blowout. Those of you giving up on players and/or the entire team really need to loosen up.

You have got to be kidding me. Nash is still a top 5 PG in the NBA.

No way.
Chris Paul, Deron Williams, Chauncey Billups, Tony Parker, Devin Harris are all much better than Nash, and Jameer Nelson, Jason Terry, and even Jose Calderon and Rajon Rondo are all playing better than Nash. Andre Miller and Baron Davis come to mind also.

I'll easily explain what happened in this game.

Near the very end, like the last 3 minutes or so....

SUNS MISSED
POR MADE
SUNS MISSED OPEN SHOT
POR MADE LAST SECOND BANK SHOT

BRANDON ROY HAD 52 PTS
POR WAS ON A 3 GAME LOSING STREAK or something like that
POR WAS AT HOME

If I could choose to play vs the trailblazers in the first round of the playoffs tomorrow I would not hesitate simply because I know Roy wouldn't be doing that every night. **** happens.

Make up your minds...do you want to see faster, more entertaining basketball like tonight?.......because if so, you're not gonna see any defense played.
Sheesh...unbelievable.

D'antoni's teams didn't have defense this bad..

Did you see that TNT stat? 3 of the top 5 NBA scoring performances this season happened against the Suns. And Wade's 43 wasn't on the list.

Nash 1.5

First of all, Barnes is not the starter. Hill is.

I'd say:
Nash 0.5
Richardson 3
Hill/Barnes 3.5
Stoudemire 2
Shaq 3.5

Point is- defense didn't lose the game for the Suns. It was one of those games- Roy got hot and it didn't matter who was guarding him. You could have had Bowen and Artest guarding him and it wouldn't have made any difference.

They gave up 15 offensive rebounds and turned the ball over 16 times, while only getting 7 offensive boards and forcing 6 turnovers.

Yes they did. The lack of defensive effort was embarassing. The thing that they had going for them the first few years was that they simply out ran teams so much that they were completely winded by the 2nd half.

Teams have adjusted and now there are more up-tempo teams in the NBA

I believe playing good offense but yet playing good defense in critical stretches can be combined.

SHEESH... unbelievable.

Hardly any defense was played by both teams, so if you say the Suns didn't play defense...say the rest of that statement to make it true, the Blazers didn't either

There was NO DEFENSE played by either team. The difference in the game was clearly turnovers and offensive rebounds. Was a great game to watch. Roy is a stud. I like his poise. Nash, as great as his career has been, is no way a top 5 PG.

And as good as any team could be coming out of the west, including my Lakers, in a 7 game playoff series they will be toast against whoever comes out of the east. Simply because the D in the west is PATHETIC.

At this point, you're better off vomiting all over yourself than posting on this message board anymore. You contribute nothing of substance and are part of the reason I dont frequent the Suns MB much

Actually i am a bit psychic.
Anyway, yes the SUNS have some poor defensive players.
Who said anything about instantly becoming a defensive team?
The notion that D'Antoni's teams are bad defensive teams just because he has bad defensive players and thus is exempt from blame is also silly.
D'Antoni's teams will ALWAYS be poor defensive teams...because defense is not important to DA(do you dispute this?).
Defense is much more important to Porter(do you dispute this?)
Its no coincidence that while the SUNS have picked up the offensive tempo recently that the defense has weakened.
I see your point as far as having good defensive players...i really do but why take the angle that Porter can't coach it? Thats just not a smart statement.

Any idea why LB's mins are dropping every game while his game keeps improving? I don't understand Nash even get on the floor in the 4th q while the team was clearly better in that little stretch with LB at PG.

Porter's rotation is TERRIBLE!

I just wish the suns would have slowed down the pace a little bit in the 4th qtr when they got the lead, who knows it might have slowed the blazers or should I say Roy down a little bit. Awww well can't every game vs the blazers just really wanted that one :(
