$100 million for uninsured All-NBA Amare?
$81 million for the bench trio of Frye, Warrick and Childress?

Game 1

C. Frye 25 min 3 pts 6 rebs
H. Warrick 18 min 10 pts 2 rebs
J. Childress 17 min 4 pts 0 rebs

TOTAL 60 min 17 pts 8 rebs 4 ast 4 to 0 stl 2 blk

vs.

A. Stoudemire 36 min 19 pts 10 rebs 2 ast 9 to 0 stl 2 blk

Is it possible that Amare could outperform the three Suns backups combined over the entire season? To be fair, he'd have to create 25% more value since he takes up $20 million of the salary cap vs about $16 million for the Suns' guys.

I like this idea...whenever I feel a need to get sick, this will be the place to go.

This thread should be locked. What a useless comparison. We all know Amare is good, but if you took Amare on that contract, the Suns' hands would be tied for years. And congrats to Amare for putting up 19 points on the Raptors (achievement of the year award worthy). I'm pretty sure I can drop 25 on the Raptors.

Channing Frye = SUCKAGE
Warrick and Childress are good.

I don't see the point of the thread when we all know Amare will never lead us to a championship here in Phoenix. If Amare was here do you guys honestly believe the team would beat

a) Boston
b) Lakers
c) Heat?

Not happening.

Do you honestly think we'll get within a game of the finals within the next 5 years? Didn't think so.

Amare isn't a perfect option, but top PF's don't grow on trees. You already hear the players and coaches speaking wistfully about Amare, we'll see how you feel as the season goes on.

.

Wow!!! You can drop 25 on the Raptors!! the FO is looking for someone like you then, considering the Raptors gave the Suns the biggest beat down of the pre-season.
In another thread, you said Amare is not missed on the team, now you played down his 10 rebounds when you constantly whine about it while he was here.
Did he do something to you? because it is glaring you clearly hate him and Frye.

It's rather pointless comparing one starter to three bench players, though interesting to note that Amare had more than twice as many turnovers in his first game than Frye, Warrick and Childress combined. The fact remains that the Suns did not sign those players in order to replace Amare. The fact is also that the Suns did not pass on Amare because they thought he didn't play well enough, especially offensively. The contract the Suns offered him had nothing to do with what he'll do this year or next, but what he'll do four, five years down the line. So whether the Suns made the right choice or not won't ultimately be known until years from now.

As for NY, they took a major gamble. A more interesting comparison this season would be Amare to David Lee since NY could have opted to re-sign Lee for less money. In his first game Lee had 17 points on 6-11 shooting, 15 rebounds, 6 assists, a block and 3 turnovers. I think the Suns should have made a better effort in trying to get Lee for Amare instead of signing other players too quickly.

Haha, no he hasn't done anything to me. I don't really consider him a Championship caliber player. Frye isn't either. That's why I really don't care that he's gone. Stoudemire pretty much proved last playoffs what his limitations are. Obviously he is a good PF and he frees up our shooters because of double teams but I rather have Stoudemire gone and us having cap space than having him here with no cap space. He lacks any intelligence to defend elite PF's and big men. Defense always wins over offense. Otherwise the Suns would have about 5 rings by now.

If we lose for a few years, its not the end of the world. As Suns fans, we should be used to this. I like most of the moves this offseason. The jury is still out on Turk but Childress, Warrick were both solid pickups. Lawal is also a good player. I hate Frye, the guy is pretty much garbage in all facets of the game other than three point shooting, which is also pretty shaky. I really wish the Suns never re-signed Frye. The starting 5 may struggle for a while this year but I see big promise with bench. I like the Dragic/Childress connection.

And wow, the Raptors won a game in the preseason, big friggin deal. That team sucks man. I can bet 20 bucks that you can't name their starting 5 last night without googling it.

I was a big proponent for Lee, he rebounds, he doesn't need to score a lot, and he passes better than Amare. The Knicks traded him to GS so there wasn't much we could do there.

It is not about losing the game, it is how they beat us. To an extent i agree with you that losing in the pre-season is really nothing to go by unless you lose by 51 in one game and 38 the second one. Starters barely played the first game but they logged more minutes the second game, yet they beat us by almost 40 again. It shows "at that time" they were the better running team. Will they beat us again in the reg season? i guess we'll see.

Hey, Amare may not be the smartest but he is still a force on offense and right now the Suns are yet to address the hole left in his stead.
Frye is who he is, when he performs, he makes it look like he deserves that contract but yeah, mostly he plays tissue soft. It is one contract you wish the FO had skipped but then again, there are worse players in the league earning just as much if not much more.

I think Chikdress and Warrick were good pickups for the Suns and tradeable. I think Frye was worth 25M instead of the 35M for the length of his contract. I guess it is fair to debate whether he was worth 10M more. I think the bigger issue is the Suns got the same type player in Turkoglu. IMO, no one would argue that Amare was worth 100M if he had a history of staying healthy. I didn't see anyone in line to sign Amare for this amount guaranteed except NY. So Suns fans will miss Amare as long as he stays healthy.

Yep. The same way the Mav fans missed Nash as long as he's stayed healthy.

Sigh... I guess it had to happen. Steve Nash didn't have microfracture surgery and his knees are not destined to give out at the age of 31 like they are for Amare.

I think this would be a fair comparison if Nash had a history of missing games because of injury.

How quickly people forget. We didn't go three months on this board without a campaign to trade Stoudemire, even when he was healthy. His effort is inconsistent, and his offensive game is too narrow for him to be the #1 option on a championship-caliber team. Unless the Knicks break the bank (and find some very willing trade partners) to surround Stoudemire with at least two more perennial All-Stars, they aren't going anywhere.

I said that kind of tongue in cheek but Cuban claimed the reason he didn't pay Nash is that he thought he'd break down before the end of his contract.

But Cuban also said that Nash seemed to wear down every season and be gassed come playoff time. Cuban's diagnosis was incorrect -- it's increased fouling, not season-long fatigue, that is responsible for Nash's reduced effectiveness in the postseason -- but he correctly identified the symptom.

Before micro-fracture? I don't think so.

Well no, but that was eons ago. The pre-microfracture Stoudemire hasn't existed for years and never will again, so I didn't think that's who we were talking about.

What could have been. Sigh.

in this day and age of technological advancement to say "destined" about the likelihood of a future injury is kinda silly and presumptuous.

not saying i would have given him the contract, but we will definitely miss him. it's entirely possible he stays healthy. and we're saddled with a lot of not terrible contracts, but in the aggregate we're essentially handcuffed.

oh, and we're going to get clobbered all season on boards. how anyone could think that lopez was going to average 10rebs/game is beyond me. i foresee a long season that could stretch into a long few seasons. nash will finally wear out. bye bye season ticket holders.

Hate to disappoint you, but we'd get clobbered all season on the boards with Amare as well. Probably not as bad, but clobbered nonetheless.

Of course losing Stoudemire is going to look bad a few months removed, and will likely look bad for another year or two. The reason why he's not a Sun is because we were concerned about years 3 through 5 and weren't willing to make a gamble that only the desperate Knicks were willing to make.

He should fit in perfect in GS. He doesn't play any defense either.
