Nope. Just saw the Denver GM on tv last night and he WILL make a run at Camby pretty hard. FWIW. ;)

Camby might be the biggest impact player the Suns could get in free agency outside of Koby. He add's something the Suns don't have--shot blocking. He's also a good rebounder.

As if they haven't been for the last three months.

There IS a scenerio where they drop Camby and go for Okur. Sounds pretty dumb to me, but supposedly Okur doesn't want to go to Denver if he has to backup Camby. Kiki really likes Okur and his offensive skills would be much more of an advantage in Denver than in Phoenix.

If by some fluke that happened, I'm sure Phoenix would be Camby's first stop. I don't know what I would offer, but he would be a popular pickup if he stayed healthy.

There's no doubt that a healthy Marcus Camby would be a great fit with the Phoenix Suns. Without his history of injuries I'm sure he would be at the top of their free-agent target list this summer. Of course if my aunt had balls she would be my uncle. Camby has been one of the most often injured players in the NBA. Bryan Colangelo has talked repeatedly over the last few days about avoiding players like him. At some point a team has to take some risks if they are going to achieve greatness, but this is roughly the equivalent of throwing all of your winnings on the field in craps. It might even be worse than that because Camby IS going to end up on the injured list.

Your eloquence astounds me Joe. I would assume injury propensity is built into the contract offer. Needless to say, Camby shouldn't be getting 8-10 million. But if he's in the 5-6 range, well, I'd be interested--even with his injury history.

WITH an early team opt out.

You will definitely be interesting to see what he gets. I guarantee you if there is an early team opt out clause he will be getting $8-9 million per season. He's either gonna want a shorter contract for big money or a longer contract for a little bit less. Or he could just end up bitterly disappointed, but I doubt it.

There is a report today that he is still looking for a six year $60 million guaranteed deal. I'm more inclined toward a four year $30 million, so I'm not sure there is much to talk about until he finds out just how out of range that is. YOU ARE NO LONGER KNICK. :stupid:

Jay Williams scares me a little bit

I remember his injury was pretty serious

He might be forth a look for a non-guarenteed contract but if thats the case I rather give someone like Mark Jackson a chance. We know that he is capable of running a team and he could give some guidance to Barbosa; showing him the ropes of being PG for our team.

Williams wasn't a very good NBA player before his accident. At least he didn't look like one. At most I would give him a summer league invite.

Umm no... he just put dropped a big triple double on Jason Kidd as a rookie.

Gary Payton doesn't look like a good NBA player in the triangle offense either. I remember Marbury said Jay Williams would benefit a lot if they just let him play.

He might have been a really good pro but the guy nearly lost his leg. He should feel really fortunate that he can even walk. I wish him all the luck in the world but I would be shocked if he ever plays in the NBA again.

The article said he hopes to work his way up to running and cutting.

uh, dont count on it. no way we go after okur instead of keeping camby. not a chance in hell. if anything we would sign okur to be a backup but hell, id rather go after a SG.

Kobe's coming back to Colorado soon for another 'visit', eh? ;)

Seriously, though, if they re-sign Camby, backup center seems like a pretty important position for your team to fill. But I guess they can always move Skita over there, right?

oh i get it - because where kobe, a laker, perhaps committed a crime, is in the same state as my favorite basketball team, thats an insult. oh man, that is so logical and it makes amazing amounts of sense.

no, backup center is not important. it would be nice but hardly important. we have andersen and birdman which will be sufficient and if we get kmart, then we have nene off the bench as well. and skita cannot play center. sf/pf.

There is some talk that the Nuggets will talk to Okur. Okur isn't interested in going to the Nuggets if Camby is there (he is leaving a backup position in Detroit).

Last season Camby only averaged 8.6 ppg in 30 minutes, while Okur average 9.6 ppg in 22.3 minutes which translates into almost 13 ppg in 30 minutes. On the Nuggets Okur could be expected to become a major scorer since he is a pretty good shooter.

On the Suns Okur's offense is not as valuable. Nene averages only 11.8 ppg compared to Amare at 20.8 ppg.

In this context, it is not out of the question that the Nuggets might prefer Okur over Camby - especially with his history of injuries. The fact that Okur would be less expensive would also make a difference.

The other option that has been discussed is K-Mart (moving Nene to center). If they don't sign Camby, the Nuggets have the cap space.

If Camby does not go to the Nuggets, then where does he go? Besides the Suns, the only other teams with much cap space are: Atlanta (not hardly), the Spurs (not a priority), Clippers (cheapest team in the NBA), Golden State (they will focus on keeping Foyle), Utah and the Suns.

The reason Utah has so much cap space is that they refuse to overpay. Also, they do not have a power guy like Nene to help.

It is a long train of "if's", but Camby might be open to a more reasonable deal once the real world catches up with him.

only if okur is MUCH cheaper.
