Tonight at 7PM local the Suns first preseason game will be on NBA TV. Not sure if it will be televised on any local stations. Gonna be nice to actually get a chance to see what we have with all these new players, but not gonna invest too much into the first preseason game considering it will be their first actual game together.

The Suns play at Sacramento tonight. I do not subscribe to NBA TV so I doubt I will get to see it unless it is streamed on the internet. The first preseason game slated to be televised nationally (taken from the Suns schedule) is a game with Denver at home on October 26th.

I think this may be a first season in a while where the preseason results will actually be quite telling of what kind of a team it is. The Suns have no reason to bench starters or to limit anyone's minutes. They have no reason to take it easy. The goal will be to find the right combinations of players and to build conditioning, but at the same time the team needs to keep building chemistry and morale. The best way to do that is via winning. A really poor preseason record would probably mean this team will struggle all year.

I have to disagree because it could take a while for everyone to settle into their roles and for the team to build chemistry.

For me, it will be how well the Suns play together and the performances of key players. I want to see some flashes of a good team in preseason not necessarily wins.

Yes, that's always a possibility, but I'm afraid that if the team gets off to a slow start, both in preseason and in start of season, it will set the tone for the rest of year. With this group of players it will be much more difficult to overcome a slow start than in past years, imo.

I agree, but I also think that good team basketball will translate into wins (or at least winnable games). Individual performances became less significant when the team is down by 20. A 0-7 or 1-6 preseason record won't give me (or the team) much confidence heading into the season.

I'll be tickled pink if they play respectable defense and hold their own on the boards, win or lose.

I am surprised at how little I care. As the season rolls I will probably pay more attention, especially if young players start to make some noise.

Really? That's too bad, I know you've been a fan for a long time. I'm intrigued by this group and curious how it will all play out. It really reminds me of the way I felt when we were still talked about as a new franchise. I really had no expectations back then and was able to watch each game merely for the pleasure of seeing them play. Of course, back then, I "watched" most of my games on the radio.

Oh sure, Hot Rod, but he was never my favorite. I think Al started doing games in 72 (71?) and at first we tended to make fun of the guy but it didn't take too long for him to win over the valley. I'm a McCoy guy, what can I say.

I don't get cable so there are very few games I actually get to watch. The NBA is almost exclusively cable these days.

Most of our tv watching is netflix. Hate commercials. Like my own time table.

I'm definitely interested, even if its mostly morbid curiosity. I'd feel a lot better about things if they'd given Gentry an extension.

It looks like NBA TV is showing the Suns game on DirecTV, channel 216. I thought it would be blocked so I may be in luck.

Why would they give their scapegoat an extension?

It should be on now, but it's not on 216. :bang:

I didn't actually see the Suns game on NBATV schedule. According to the schedule on Suns.com, the second game will be on NBATV.

Yeah, I'm sitting here swearing at my TV. I don't know why they're showing the Clippers preview instead of the game but I'm holding out hope they'll switch at the half hour.

Steve

Edit: Looks like it's just a bad listing. The NBA TV website doesn't show the Suns game at all.

Did you have to download "Video Performer" player? All it does is buffer for me as I did not do the download.

Never mind. I've got it now.

Didn't have to download anything.

Edit: Guess I should have read the entire post.
