Just read an article how he gave away all star point guard Isiah Thomas for a 1st round pick and how that was his biggest regret.
How can you trust a guy who couldn't see he had a freaking all star under his nose and gave him away.
Isn't that his job?
This team is by far the worst in terms of playing and likability I've ever seen.
Why they keep him as GM I don't know.
What are your thoughts?

He wasn't an all star when we had him, especially in the West.

I trust his talent eval and draft selections but his personnel management needs some work.

Thomas would not have been an all-star in the west most likely.

Most GMs were not giving IT much more than the time of day when the Suns acquired him on a very reasonable contract. McDonough does not seem to get any credit for recognizing he was a talent. GMs make good moves and they make bad moves. No one is 100% over the long run.

I trust McDonough but he needs some PR lessons.

Agreed. If you want to find a reason to not "trust" him you can do better than this one. I trust him but that's mostly a choice. We were horrible when he got here and we're horrible right now. I think we're in much better shape as far as assets go but you couldn't tell it by the product on the court. Anyway, I think he should be safe for at least one more season but who knows what Sarver is thinking?

Totally disagree. He is willing to be open about regrets. Most fans on this board wanted IT gone ASAP. And everything else everyone else has said.

Totally, totally disagree.

Echoing what others have said and I'd like to add that the 2012/13 team was way less likeable than this group.

Isaiah was at the center of an ugly situation here and our guards were the strength of the team - and McD over reacted. I'm sure he made up his mind to deal Thomas in hopes of keeping Goran even though the deal with Boston went down after it was too late. Yes, he probably could have gotten more from Isaiah than he did but I wasn't wishing we'd kept him because I didn't see him and Bledsoe being a good backcourt pairing - I'd have thought differently if I'd known he going to jump on Brandon Knight, but hindsight is always better.

In retrospect his biggest mistake with the backcourt was outbidding himself to retain Bledsoe, particularly with him showing clear signs of being frequently injured - and having to pace himself on defense in order to play starters minutes. He'd be great coming off the bench but he was too flawed to be a foundation piece. Heck, I'd say acquiring Thomas in the first place was a major mistake, since McD and Hornacek did not have a coherent plan for what his role would be - at least, its clear, if they had one, they couldn't get the players to buy into it.

9 of 10 fans irrationally hated Isaiah Thomas because he was outplaying Dragic and were happy they finally traded him so bashing McD for that is a joke.

Anyway calling IT an allstar is misleading. Bledsoe was having a better season. Allstar selections mesn nothing since it is not necessarily thr best players in the league that are selected.

Would anyone call Jeff Teague an allstar now because he made it last year?

I trust Ryan to draft well. Outside of that, I have no confidence in him.

I don't really hate McD overall but I don't think his drafting is really all that special. He got Len who is still a huge question mark and I don't think Goodwin has turned out that good either but I give him a pass because looks like that draft is full of question marks anyway. He drafted Warren who is really a mid range scorer only who can't really play much defense (and may never be able to due to his lack of desirable athleticism and measurements for a good defender) and no 3pt shot....his game would have been nice in the '80s but today's NBA seems outdated for his skills. Tyler Ennis also looks like a bust hence why he was basically a throw-in in the Knight trade. Would have much rather preferred Rodney Hood over both those guys. A Booker/Hood SG-SF combination would have given us a lot of spacing and dynamic on the floor. I like the Booker selection and I did applaud him for that selection at the time it was made as well but other than that, he hasn't done anything that special in the draft. Will reserve judgment on Bogdanovic til he actually plays here.

TJ Warren is shooting 40% from 3, yeah he has no 3-pt shot. :barf::barf:

Not to mention he was one of the top bench scorers in the league this season.

He's definitely improved his shot from deep, it will be interesting to see if it holds up. He takes very few from there and it's usually just when the defense ignores him. If he can still shoot .400 when he's asked to put up more than 1.5 attempts per game, he should be able to supplant PJ in the starting lineup. I think that should have happened anyway, it's not like anyone actually guards Tucker out there either.

Ryan McDis a douche it seems. But he does make some good deals. As far as his vision and building a cohesive team, i don't trust.

What type of team does he want to build? We are collecting "assets" but for what? Now that we lost some players, we finally decide to tank and draft? Seems like he's just doing moves on the fly with no true end game.
