I'm getting nervous with how many good young players we're getting. How deep a rotation do you think Watson will play?

Len/Chandler
Chriss
Warren
Booker
Bledsoe
...
Draft pick (if not starter)
Bender
Ulis
Williams
---
Airplane mode
Barbosa
Dudley

Something like that? I guess 9 deep is normal?

I'm thinking you are very close.

A lot of coaches like to go 8 deep but I would like for the Suns to be able to go 9 deep. However, this is only me.

In the playoffs it can tighten. If I recall correctly DA used to go 7 deep in the playoffs but I think this lead to player fatigue.

There are definitely worse problems to have!

I don't want to see anyone go, but Lord we are packed with assets all of a sudden. Imagine if we still had the Laker's pick. Still a bummer, but even without it we are loaded. McD's last two drafts have been stellar. This draft is looking guaranteed. I don't see any team able to put together a more attractive trade package than us. Our future is very bright.

You get to be packed with assets when your second rounders and rookie FA pickups start panning out. I expect that our pick this year will push Williams or DJJr back into obscurity.

We can't just keep going younger and younger though. At some point you have to mix a star veteran in--not just journeyman vets like Duds and Barbs.

I think next year we'll be in the hunt, hopefully making the playoffs. That would be great for the fans and the young players. Then with the 13th pick in 2018 you grab the best shooter you can get. Like a Devin Booker ;)

I don't disagree with this. That said you acquire as many assets (particularly young talent) in order to eventually package some for a vet at a position of need.

Look at Jordan's bulls:

Jordan, pippen, Oakley, grant, bj . . .

They had redundancy at pf so they packaged Oakley for Cartwright.

Look at the price cavs:

Price, Ehley, Daugherty, Harper, kj, mark west, Corbin . . .

They had redundancy at pg and stockpile of good youth so they traded kj, west and Corbin and a pick (that became thunder dan?) for nance

That's why I'm not concerned about drafting a pg if they're the best player just because you draft them at a position of current strength doesn't mean you can't eventually use that redundancy to your benefit.

I agree, stockpiling talent and draft picks is never a bad thing because you can always trade for what you need when the opportunity is there.

The real model for this is the Celtics team that Ainge and McD put together packaging young talent to bring in Garnett. They gave up Al Jefferson, Gerald Green, Ratliff, Telfair, and a couple of picks I think. But it brought them a championship.

Jeff Green, but yeah- that was a textbook example of trading for stars.

Really the same can be said when the Suns traded for Barkley. They had:

Kj, horny, thunder, ceballos, chambers, perry, west, Lang bang

They packages redundancy at sg, forward, and center for a star and didn't evicerate their team in the process bc of the depth of talent (aka "assets") they had built up.

If Williams gets pushed to obsurity... it better be because this post all star production was a flash in the pan, which I don't think it was.

Otherwise, he and ulis have a very effective connection going, especially as part of our second unit next year. And you would expect them to get better as they get older.

Throw in whoever our 1 pick is (fultz, jackson, tatum) I would expect them to start off the season as part of the second unit along with bender
