In two days, the Lakers v. Suns series begins--after a long layoff, the WCF begins after what seems like an eternity.

I think it is amazing how nearly every commentator gives this Phoenix team no chance against the Lakers--how there has been no respect to this team which has been the hottest team in the NBA for much of the latter part of the regular season.

In a way--I have to admit, this Phoenix team reminds me of the 1999 Spurs team which won their first NBA Title. I predict this Suns team will win their first title this year s well.

For one thing--I think the Suns bench and role players are playing like a team of destiny. Against the Spurs--in every game--someone else stepped up and provided the added touch that resulted in Phoenix winning. This was so reminiscent of the Spurs '99 team--when the bench and role players played such a huge role in the title run.

This is going to be the key in the series against the Lakers.

So--while Phil Jackson ******* about Steve Nash--look for the bench and the role players to be huge in this series. The Lakers bench SUCKS!!!!!

The first game will tell the tale. Remember, Phil has NEVER lost a playoff series when his team has won the first game. He's something like 43-0 in that scenario...

Before 2006 Phil Jackson had also never lost a first round series. Let's see if the Suns can break another streak by one of the league's better coaches. :D

But don't forget that nobody had walked on the moon until 1969.

I don't think the REAL greg popovich would agree with this post. the lakers are a championship caliber team the the suns have not faced yet these playoffs. the spurs and blazers certainly were not....

I might be wrong, but this appears to be an emotional post. the spurs have nothing to do with this.. 1999 spurs are done and the 2010 spurs are not true title contenders. the lakers are a true title contender in 2010...and now that we have learned that the suns are...we will see how they matchup with the best.

then you have orlando(IMO will win the east and would beat phoenix if they upset LA). Orlando comes into today the HOTTEST team down the stretch...and the 2nd hottest team over the last few months would be choking on their exhaust right now. but even if it is boston re-emerging as the eastern champ..they are a championship caliber team as well. I don't think the suns will knife through any of these teams in 5. If they beat the lakers they will have to play 6 or 7 games. they also can't afford to leave LA down 2-0 or it will be over(1st game might be over lol). I think the lakers will win this one in 6, but the suns will be tough for them.

Awesome. A Mavericks fan attacking a Spurs fan on a Suns message board.

On losing to the Suns in 06 and 07;
"It is personal for me," said Fisher, who's played 11 of his 14 seasons in Los Angeles. "Obviously we can't take back what happened then, but this is the closest we can get to doing it. And so I'm going to take on the extra emotion that a lot of the guys that were on those teams will have."
What a tool. He wasn't even there both times LA lost to the Suns. whatever floats his boat i guess.

That '06 LAKERS team was garbage....it's not like we spoiled their championship hopes

The fact that that team took us to 7 games is a travesty in itself....it's a friggin miracle that we beat the CLIPZ in the semi's.

I think Kobe Bryant and Derek are grasping at straws. If they have to look back to those season in which they were not going to win a title regardless if the Suns beat them....then that tells me they are reaching to come up with some reason to get up for this series.

P.S. There is little chance the Suns get out of this with only 1 Laker win. I just don't see. This is the defending champs.

Actually, I disagree with much of what you say. The quality of competition in the East is certainly suspect--for you to declare that Orlando is the "hottest" team based on who they have defeated thus far is pretty foolish. And I think Hollinger was right--the winner of the Suns/Spurs series will represent the Western Conference in the NBA Finals. I stand by my prediction--the bench for the Suns will be the X-factor.

Yeah i'm not sure why they'd need to even comment on those two series.

Agreed. Hell i thought the Portland and S.A. series would both go 7.....I don't see how this one goes less than 6. Even if we can do whats necessary(get one in LA), you'd have to think that it would awaken the sleeping giant at that point right?...........I think S.A. woke up to the fact that we were simply better than they were. I don't see that happening against the combined ego's of Phil, Kobe & Fisher......no matter how this series ends.
