• The Suns plan to hire another assistant coach this summer after losing one man from the staff when Frank Johnson was fired and Mike D'Antoni was promoted.
Taken from Arizona Republic article.

For the past few months I have been advocating finding a defense guru. I was wondering if they should:

1. Sign an assistant coach from another team

2. Sign a former head coach who is experienced at implementing a defense.

3. Sign a former player who was a great defensive player who has some teaching skills.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

If the Nuggets fire Bzdelik, his staff may go with him. That would free up John MacLeod.

Cheryll Miller former Mercury coach turned down an offer from USC because she was contacted by a NBA team about an assistant coaching position.

There's your defensive coach. Count me has also liking the idea of hiring an assistant coach who is a defensive guru. I don't like the way his coaching staff has the team playing defense.

Maybe Steve Kerr is a candidate. Certainly not a defensive coach.

Or Jeff Hornacek who worked as a shooting coach with the Jazz before he moved back to Phoenix.

Dan Majerle? Probably not.

Scott Williams? The Suns wanted him immediately.

One of the things I was wondering about is if the Suns would be interested in Nate McMillan if he leaves Seattle as is rumored. I'm not excited about his skills as a head coach, but he was one of the greatest defenders I've seen. I know he's had trouble getting the Sonics to buy into it, but I wonder if he might have more success working with the Suns.

I would rather have an assistant coach that specializes in defense, but maybe Scout Williams will hang them up and join the coaching staff.
