I was reading Paul Coro's article from azcentral dated 10-15-09. It seems that the Suns might add a big man who gets released later this month from another team. I guess something is better than nothing depending on who gets released.

Finances and the available pool will affect the Suns' decision on adding a big man. An addition would have to be an everyday player, likely one who is released this month.

Kurt Thomas, please!

Unfortunately that's not happening. When the Spurs traded for RJ they tried to send Bonner instead of Thomas, but the Bucks insisted on Thomas. If they waive him or buy him out it will cost more than if they did the same thing w/ Bonner so it looks like they have plans for him.

Too bad. But maybe they'd cut him mid season when it's over for the Bucks by then.;)

I'd like to see us pick up another big in the Brian Skinner mold. I'd also like to see Tucker cut and Powell signed (actually might as keep them both; we have enough roster spots). Powell showed more in his one start the other night than Tucker has in his two years on the team.

However I don't see us getting a big that can contribute and I definitely can't see Sarver adding another contact in Powell even though it will be for the min.

IMO, the Suns messed up big time by signing Griffin to fill the 13th spot on the Suns roster. I believe his contract is guaranteed for about $500,000 but he will cost a million considering the LT. The Suns should have filled it with a big man or at the very least a player like Powell. As Tucker has a guaranteed contract I don't see the Suns cutting him. If the Suns do add another player they will have fourteen players when they only wanted thirteen.

Gotta have bodies to make trades. Sometimes those small Griffin type contracts really help out!

Who am I kidding? We aren't trading for ****!

I ain't mad at the Griffin signing. I envision him in a Malik Rose type role off the bench - a banger tweener. We could do worse. He ain't a world beater and he might not contribute too much, but I'll give him a shot....

Chances are, Jarron Collins is probably going to get waived by the Blazers. He could come in and compliment Lopez and Griffin.

I hope you're right. I just don't see Taylor Griffin as being NBA material.

I am told that the Suns drafted Griffen primarily to push Clark in workouts/practice. They don't really think he's NBA material but he works his butt off and will be a great influence on Clark given his reputation of not having a high motor.

Collins to the suns?

As you'll recall from Dave's explanation earlier this fall, once opening day hits the cap holds that apply to Blazers players under foreign contract will be lifted from the Blazers books, putting the Blazers under the cap. Prior to the Mills signing, the Blazers were estimated to be roughly $1.9 million dollars under the cap. Now that they have signed Mills, the team will be roughly $1.4 million under the cap. Comparatively, signing Udoka or Collins would have left the team with roughly $1.1 million under the cap.
The Blazers can potentially use this $1.4 million of open cap space to facilitate a lopsided trade. Although roughly $300,000 doesn't sound like a ton of money when it comes to professional salaries, every dollar counts when it comes to maximizing your trading flexibility.

Jarron Collins, reported Quick, is headed to the Phoenix Suns.

I think this news deserves it's own thread. Perhaps you might want to start one.

Collins is not a very good player. Frye is better offensively but maybe they think Collins can be more physical? Just another big body?

We don't need more offense from the center position. We need defense and rebounding.

How true that is.

I know it's the pre-season, but in the Suns latest game (vs. Portland), we were out-rebounded 16-4 (offensive), 34-24 (defensive) and 50-28 (total).

Their starting Forwards and Center out-rebounded ours 19-5.

Those numbers are pathetic, pathetic, pathetic and pathetic.

Do we really think it's going to change when the season starts?

And, oh yes, we lost by 20.

I agree with you. I just don't think your going to get it from Collins. As I said, he is not a very good player.

I guess Collins is the best we can expect to get since we wouldn't shell out the money to get anyone else better when they were available. Can't hurt to bring him in at this point even if he isn't that good. Frye and Lopez aren't much better really.

Oh great... Portland's trash is our treasure... Actually, anyopne's trash is our treasure, as long as it doesnt hurt Sarver's wallet.

At least the Suns selected Dick Van Arsdale in the 1968 expansion draft.

It was mentioned elsewhere that Jake Voskuhl was also waived, so I wonder if the Suns would be interested in brining him back instead. I have not read anything from Coro that would suggest that, but wouldn't he be a better option than Collins? At least we know what to expect from Jake and he already played with Nash, Amare and Barbs.

And kept Dan Majerle over Jeff Majerle, who was skinny and had only a 3-point shot . . . and managed his first restaurant.

And, as you inferred, Dick over Tom. That's VanArsdale, not Smothers. :)

You know what - screw financial, screw management and all known logics - i wanted and I still want CAMBY ;)

He would be EXACTLY what we need right now - rebounds, rebounds and blocks. A real big, no d-leaguer, no scrub but a very strong experienced player.

Please, make it happen Santa :D

Tucker, Griffin, Lopez, (Richardson) - pick something LA...
