Now that the roster is basically finalized what do you think our strongest and weakest lineups (that will likely receive extended minutes) will be? And I am not talking about projected starters, this is more of a +/- as a 5 man group question.

As our best look I'd go with:

Gortat
Scola
Dudley
Brown
Dragic

Good shooting, good penetration, and while not a good rebounding group, this is probably the best we will be able to field.

And our worst:

O'Neal
Frye
Beasley
Johnson
Marshall

No rebounding, no interior play, no penetration, poor shooting, extremely inefficient. I doubt we will see a ton of this look but when its out there expect them to get butchered.

Nice reading comprehension. Despite that I explicitly stated "I am not talking about projected starters" you say that.

Amazing. And that was a well thought out counter by the way.

In a van...down by the river.
Why is it that so many posters in here rarely talk about defense and stopping the other team?

I'm gonna put Beasley in there with the best defensive lineup we've got in the 4th qtr when we need to get stops and still try to hang in offensively...

Dragic
Dudley
Beasley
Scola
Gortat

This team overall could get pounded on the glass and they'll struggle to score in the clutch. Their best hope would be to shorten the game IMO.

based on last season's stats Gortat, Scola, Dudley, Brown, Dragic, as a group, are slightly above the league wide 'five on the floor' average in rebounding. This is not pace adjusted but Phx didn't have a particularly high pace last year if I remember correctly. Using Own FGA/48min as an estimate of pace, they are slightly below average pace corrected. (Using Opp FGA/48 would be a better correction factor but I don't have that stat available.)

Beasley is a miserable defender. I'd rather go with Brown/Dudley as a defensive look.

I know but we're going to need his aggressive scoring. My thinking was to put some better defenders on the floor with him.

We'll see... but if the Beasley we get is the same guy who was in Minnesota the last 2 years our offense, as a team, will play better when he is off the court.
