How does the John Salmons deal make our management look bad? Seriously?

If you want to slam our offseason, at least use the rational reasons behind it--TT and the draft (and the draft is a lost cause).

I don't think it makes us look that bad by itself, but a) why the hell were we gonna give that guy such a large contract? b) we lost out to the Raptors and c) we targeted someone and AGAIN whiffed.

It's the totality of the situation - it's not like this is the first the Suns themselves have been dissapointed this off-season and the pressure mounts with each day and with each FA gone off the board.

That being said, I could care less either way if we got him or not - thinking a 6'6 guy who could POSSIBLY tote the rock woudl be our back-up PG was pretty high wishful thinking.

No, because we've neither failed nor succeded to do so at this point.

Reread my post. I think you're "missing" one of my words.

um - didn't we go after Lindsey Hunter, Bobby Jackson AND Salmons to address the backup PG spot? Did we get any of those? No - thus, we've failed to do so UP TILL THIS POINT (which is what this thread is about) - not really sure what the argument there is.

As far as getting the extensions done - has it happened? No - so at this point, we've failed to get that done as well AT THIS POINT (which again - is the point of this thread).

Now if you want to go ahead and say, well, it's too early and that this thread is stupid - fine. But then why bother posting on the thread if you're not going to talk about the subject AT HAND - which is UP TILL THIS POINT - grading the offseason?

As far as your second comment - my bad.

I agree that the amount we were offering was questionable, but it certainly wasn't "whiffing" by any means. We've probably targetted several other players, we just don't know it. Which has happened every year.

There were never that many free agents to begin with that would have played under our qualifications--we're talking very deep into the bench, probably not going to overpay (unlike the bottom feeders that have cap room), in today's NBA those are very much against us--has nothing to do with the GM.

That said, I am confident in their opinion of TT, I'm just trying to piece together why they thought he was only worth what they were offering them. I don't want to second-guess, but if his value was so much higher with the Clippers, why not us? (Aside from the fact that he will probably get significantly higher minutes and maybe start with the Clips) My only answer would be that if we projected him as a starter getting those kind of minutes, we might have indeed offered the MLE. As it is, there was no way outside of injury he would get that amount of time, so they must have thought he wasn't worth it. Which makes some sense in the long run. And that's without even taking into account his history.

For all we know we are still working on the extensions. There is nothing to indicate the progress on getting the extensions done has turned for the worse, so as far as we know there has been no failure there.

Yes, we failed to land Jackson, Hunter and Salmons, but none of those guys are ideal back-up point guards, therefore it's not worthy of an F grade, IMO. Frankly, if we picked up Bobby Jackson (an older, slower, more injury prone version of Barbosa) I'd be giving us a D- right now.

I liked Bobby Jackson if healthy. The problem is, he's never healthy, so in that case I'm glad we didn't sign him. We need our backups to be healthy just in case the starters are not.

I'd have liked Jackson too if he could stay healthy and if we didn't have Barbosa.

wait a second - so not only did we whiff on the above mentioned guys, but NONE of the were even ideal back-ups anyway according to you? So, in your opinion, correct me if I'm wrong here - the Suns were going after NON-IDEAL players and STILL whiffing? Jesus man, using that logic, it make sit WORSE than an F. You're failing at making WRONG MOVES in your opinion - how much worse can it get than that?

Geez, you're acting as though we put all our chips into each one of these players and came away broke and lost. I'm not buying that. We had a passing interest in Hunter and Jackson, but it was more a case of window shopping on our part than actually going into the store, throwing down the money and having the employee tell you the item was being purchased by another customer.

Salmons is a little different, but it was Salmons decision and not ours. He wanted more on-court action than the Suns could give him, so he chose Toronto. Probably better for us in the long run that he did.

None of those guys were going to make or break our run at a championship this year.

I rate them a D. If they had told us they were going to sit still this offseason and only sign a #9 or #10 player, then I would give them a B - but they said they would do other things and make lame excuses when it didn't pan out.
