Accoridng to various media sources the Suns are bringing in 7 of the top 10 international prospects for workouts next week.

Here are my guesses on who they will bring in:

Barbosa
Diaw
Lampe
Schortsanitis
Pavlovic
Podkolzine or Badiane
Plannic

What do you think?

Barbosa is rumored to be falling out of the first round because teams question his shot because he has a weird release although he is still making them.

Out of this group I would certainly love to get Barbosa and Shorty.

Why would Podkolzine work out for the Suns? He is going top10 same for Lampe.

I also don't think that Diaw just like Pietrus or Delfino can come over to work out because their teams are still playing in the playoffs.

Barbosa
Badiane
Shortsianitis
Pavlovic
Planinic
Pachulia
Sczewczyk
Khryapa

Those would be candidates for this week.

Szewczyk is playing in the german first league. He has already on POM award and is a leader on the 3rd best team.

He is a great dunker, decent shooter and about 6'10. Finished 2nd in the dunk contest and is body is already more prepared than most european prospects.

The only bad thing he seems to disappear in games every once in a while but also has some really big games like 25/14 or something like that in this years playoff semi finals against the 7 time repeat champion Alba Berlin.

The picture is a little bit out of date. He looks like a euro Rodman.

He could be a huge steal at the end of the first round or beginning of the 2nd round if he stays in the draft.

Planinic there was an insider story about him rising fast, I already posted in another thread about him. He is confident in his dribble and a pretty good all-around player. He is at least 6'8 so I can't see him playing PG or SG and when I saw him he didn't really wow me.

Workouts

The simple fact of the matter is that each year there is a player or 2 that takes a serious drop in the draft. The Suns have serious interest in Lampe especially. Therefore they will cover their bases by working him out just in case he falls.

There is also a chance that a team can move up in the draft. From what I have heard the SUns would like to do that. Obviously they have a player targeted that they feel won't be there at 17.

Now whether they have the ability to move up is another question.

Where did you read that?
I only read that the Suns would like to get another pick in the draft.

There have been reports that Lampe can't dunk jumping off of one foot which is pretty scary considering that he is 7' and has a 7' wingspan.

Insider dismissed those stories but he is certainly not very athletic. I think it is important to be a good athlete for whoever we draft.

PS: That guy Dexer Jackson on the frontpage looks like Rodney Rogers in his best days.

I agree, it's absolutely worthless to draft somebody with no athletic ability. If we go big, we need a guy that can run, if we go small, then we need someone to run the break.

Athleticism should be one of the top 2 requirements for anybody we draft.

I agree that I would like to see the Phoenix Suns draft somebody with some athletic ability, BUT they already have a team full of athletes (with the exception of Big Jake). By most accounts Lampe is a terrific shooter. That would be nice to have. But I agree with you guess that it would be nice if he could actually defend somebody on the other end of the court. :)

I think they should go with David West. :)

BTW, I thought in that same report that mentioned that the Suns were a team wanting to acquire another pick it also said that they would like to move up.

Where did I read it...

I have read MORE than one column (I think one was from ESPN but I'm not sure) where the Suns are one of the teams looking to move up in the draft and/or gain a second round pick.

I also read that some of the Suns brass checked out Lampe when they were in Europe. I don't know if you read the column where Lampe worked out with Elton Brand and Brand COULD NOT believe the shooting ability of this guy at 17. Also that is a bunch of crap about him not being able to jump.

It's obvious to me (based upon FOR THE MOST PART who they have brought in for a workout) that they are looking for a long body who can shoot the lites out from the outside.

Obviously none of us know for sure what is going behind the scenes but I would be very happy if we ended up with a guy such as the one I just described above.

What you think about Jarvis Hayes? In some mock drafts he slips to the Jazz. The talk is that he is one dimensional, but very good scorer. Maybe he could backup Marion and be an insurance for the future in case JJ won't turn to be what we expect from him.

Also if the Suns want to move up in the draft is their a team in the late lottery which will be interrested in the 17 pick plus Jacobsen? The draft seems to be deep so I think it's really possible.

Suns move up - Jackobsen

Based upon Casey's shooting performance last year I would not think he is that marketable. What he needs to do IMO is to hiresomeone like Eddie Johnson to work with his shooting form. It needs work and Johnson was a very good shooter during his NBA career.

I agree completely. He was brought in for his shooting and struggled last season. He also has a guaranteed contract for at least two more seasons.

I also like what I read in David West alot! If he were an inch or two taller he would be a lottery pick... He seems to be a perfect fit for us, playing alittle of both PF and SF!

I also have heard the Suns were looking at moving up...

The Suns seem to allways strike gold when they draft. I will trust anyone they get, but as of now, West is my pick...

Yes, let's get the David West bandwagon rolling. :)

I'll be surprised if they take him, but I think that if he can get some playing time next season he'll be one of the best rookie contributors.

I read that David West didn't have a lot of repetitions in the stregth test, Brian Cook had only 6!

Both are seniors and I would expect that their bodies are a lot better worked out than others.

i dont know if the reps wqe heard were correct though. collinson's agent was fuming because reports were saying he only lifted the bar 4 times, and i think they were claiming he did it 8 or 9 times

I like what I've read about West so far but the player who sounds like the best fit for our needs is Badiane - among those who are likely to fall to #17. My recollection is that he is described as an athletic rebounder / shotblocker, strong defender and a decent shot out to fifteen feet. Sort of like a lesser Ben Wallace with some offense... Of course, head doofus FJ may have him chasing guards out around the perimeter but looking forward to the time we have a useful head coach, Badiane would be nice to have around.

I think Badiane won't be in the draft.
NBAdraft.net seems to expect that he withdraws his name.

His other workouts weren't as impressive as the first one at all and there are questions if he isn't 4 years older than what he says.

And then again he wasn't good enough to play on a mediocre team in the german first league and instead played on their farmteam. I still heard from some german friends that they saw him in a game their center who is really mediocre outscored him 20 to 8.

Oh, well, I liked the things they hyped about him. At least the Suns had him in for a workout, and he didn't look so good from the report. Back to West, I guess, but I wish there was a center worth the pick.

How many good or even average centers have ever been picked #17 or lower? I bet you can't name more than a hand full.

Rasho Nesterovic was drafted at #17 but he needed quite some time to get it going.

Other than that I can only think of Jamaal Magloire and Brad Miller but neither is 7'.

The only center prospects that might be worth a thought other than the lottery picks are probably Kendrick Perkins and maybe James Lang and Sofoklis Shortsianitis.
