PHOENIX RE-SIGNS SCOTT WILLIAMS
6-10 Forward/Center to Return for 14th NBA Season
PHOENIX - The Phoenix Suns welcomed the return of one of their most popular veteran's today as the club re-signed free-agent forward/center Scott Williams.
The 6-10, 245-pounder averaged 4.0 points, 2.8 rebounds on .411 shooting from the field in 12.6 minutes last season with the Suns. He played in 69 games, the most in a season since 1994-95 when he played in 77 games with Philadelphia. His 33 starts in 2002-03 also were the most he's had in a season since 1999-2000 when he finished with 36 for Milwaukee.
A 13-year NBA veteran, Williams won three NBA titles with Chicago from 1991-93, reached the 2001 Eastern Conference Finals with Milwaukee and helped Phoenix return to the playoffs in 2003 after a one-year absence.
Phoenix is the fifth team for Williams, who spent four seasons with Chicago, three-plus each with Philadelphia and Milwaukee and the 2001-02 campaign in Denver. Over his 684 career games, Williams averaged 5.3 points, 4.9 rebounds and .468 shooting from the field in 16.9 minutes.
Williams was not drafted by an NBA team out of North Carolina in 1990 but signed with the Bulls as a free agent prior to the 1990-91 season. He grabbed a career-high 20 rebounds with Philadelphia on Feb. 20, 1995 and tallied a personal-best 24 points on April 10, 2001 against Chicago while a member of the Bucks.
