Don't they get blacked out unless you have NBA League Pass?

I think at least part of New Mexico is considered Phoenix Suns territory so they probably don't get blacked out in those areas.

It seems that Las Cruces, and Albuquerque are considered Phoenix Suns territory. For some odd reason Fox Sports Arizona is showing the New Mexico State University football game tonight.

I never thought about whether or not there are Suns fans in NM before. Is there a regional favorite? I assume in football it's probably more Cowboys and Broncos country, with the normal mishmash of Packers/Steelers/Niners/Pats fans.

In Las Cruces (born and raised), the majority of fans are 49ers, Cowboys, and Steelers, I didn't see or meet that many Packers or Pats Fans.

Up Here in Albuquerque It's mainly Cowboys/Broncos....I've only been here for 4 months but that's what I've noticed.

Been lurking here for years, saw the talk about Albuquerque and decided to finally join/comment.

Another long time Suns fan here in NM. My Pops moved to Phoenix in 1989 and I spent my summers and holidays out there... would always go catch a game or two during my visits. I still try to make it out there once or twice a year even though he's no longer with us.

Oh and yes, for some reason the games stopped getting blacked out on FSAZ at the beginning of last season. They have always been blacked out as long as I can remember; moved to Albuquerque in 2003 so at least that long.

Stoked that I no longer need league pass to watch the games.

Cheers ya'll. :)

Yes, welcome. Sorry to hear about your Pops. I just lost my dad last month. We had a strong Suns bond too.

Thanks Steve. :)

Yes, welcome.

Thanks bone. :)

Likewise. I definitely know how hard it is... losing a dad, best friend, and favorite person to watch/talk Suns with all at once is incredibly tough. Hang in there bud, time probably won't ever fully heal the pain, but it does get easier.

I wish we got more TNT instead of NBA TV and ESPN.

Insane how the Lakers get so many nationally televised games.

I understand that their a big market but there's no good reason to explain why they should get way more nationally televised games than the Grizzlies a playoff team/contender.

Just cause they have a huge fanbase doesn't mean they will watch the games while the team sucks like it is now. Sure Kobe's healthy but for how long? 10-15 games before he breaks somethin else in his body?

The best basketball in Phoenix

Meanwhile, guys, you can tune in to ESPN on ABC starting Sunday and watch the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA finals.

With the Mercury up by only 2 points over the defending Champs Minnesota as the 3rd quarter was coming to a close, Diana Taurasi hit a half-court shot and the Mercury went on to win by 18 to eliminate Minnesota.

DT led the way with 31 points and 7 assists and Center Britney Griner added 22 points to lead the Mercury. 'So nice to see a dominating Center in Phoenix.

Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun but, for the third time, the Phoenix Suns revolve around their little sister, the Phoenix Mercury. It is fun to watch!

You're the kind of fan the WNBA was made for. (Well, the kind of male fan, anyway.) Women's basketball now is probably at around the same level of athleticism as men's basketball of a century ago, and the skill level is probably higher, so if you long for the traditions of the early 20th-century version of the sport, the WNBA is the best place to get it.

That's funny, Eric! All of your soliloquy is offset by watching a Phoenix professional basketball team with a dominating Center. Y'know, the kind that wins Championships.:thumbup:

Soon to be :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

And then there's our Suns . . . .

Congratulations to the Mercury as they advance to the finals.

I always find it interesting that you separate the Suns from the equation when the Mercury are owned by Sarver as well. Do you really think the Suns would not embrace a dominant center as well?

Same ownership. Different goals... I don't think so.

Has any team in the WNBA accepted the challenge to play a Boys High School team yet? I have a feeling that if and when that game takes place, the WNBA fan base will drop by 30%... yeah, I know, that's only about 100 people that aren't family.

As a society, if we really want to spotlight the athleticism of Women, we not push a Professional Women's Softball league? And, if you don't think women can play at a very high level, ask Pujols, Piazza, and Mark Mulder how they fared against Jennie Finch.

Why would they? Men have a huge physical advantage over women, it doesn't say anything about their respective skill levels. And I don't see it impacting the viewing audience either. I don't watch women's basketball but it's not because the athletes don't excel. I have picked my sports and I have no intention of adding any more to the mix. But if I had a preteen daughter, I'd be thrilled to watch my daughter grow up following and perhaps participating in a true team sport such as basketball.

I assume the WNBA team would win pretty easily. There are a lot of women's basketball players and the WNBA has most of the best ones. A high school team will be lucky if it has even one legitimate NCAA prospect on it.

Superior strength and size can get you only so far. (And really, how many high-school boys teams could match up with an WNBA squad even in terms of height?) I'd also expect a WNBA team to torch a roster of Alex Lens, for example.

An average Division I NCAA men's team would probably be a pretty good matchup. Not the ones that find their way onto top 25 polls or even the tournament -- an actual average one.

A WNBA team could handle a high school team, easily. The athleticism between those women, and Jimmy, the slow kid in Algebra class who plays center in the high school team because he is 6'3" would almost certainly favor the girls.

However, I think the heavy majority of NCAA DI teams would mop the floor with a WNBA team. The men would just be too big, too fast and too strong for the women to compete. The best WNBA guards might be able to hold their own against your average DI men's guard, but even Griner, the "most athletic big" in WNBA history is significantly weaker and slower and less skilled than just about any guy playing at her height.

There are some women's sports I prefer to watch over men. Women's tennis I think is frequently more entertaining, as it leads to far more volley's and strategy than the men's power game, women's volleyball is legit entertainment... and not just for sex appeal. If a women's league were to ever somehow catch on I think thats the best bet. Their brand of volley ball is action packed, filled with volleys, dives and spikes, while the men's version is just a massacre of spiked balls. But the basketball is a fast paced, above the rim game, a marvel of athleticism, that I find the women's version to be absolutely brutal to watch.

I don't watch the WNBA, but you can't for a second believe that a team like Gonzaga would "mop the floor" with the Mercury. The Mercury would hold their own with the bottom half of today's NBA, no problem.
