So the talley is now:

1) Sarver scouted Doncic privately. Likely met him.
2) Sarver hired Doncic's coach after an extensive one on one interview
3) Suns are reportedly looking at free agent centers.

All coincidental...all of it.

As far as Capella goes, he has been a bad ass in the playoffs.

He is a real rim protecting and rebounding center. Basically he is what I want with Bamba.

Downside is he shoots around 50% from the FT line and does not shoot any 3s.

I'm all for the Suns pursuing Capella, but why isn't this tampering?

It's not. This is some "anonymous" source saying that the Suns are one of the teams that are EXPECTED to offer a max contract to him. The headline is misleading.

"The source requested anonymity because he isn’t authorized to comment on the Suns’ plans." LOL

Your headline is a little misleading. It implies we already have offered it but we can't until

So that sounds like an agent or an assistant to the GM

Totally get this move as a backup plan if they don’t get Ayton, but if they have a chance at Ayton and pass because they might be able to sign a guy who the Rockets can match, that seems like an incredibly stupid plan.

My guess:

Doncic / Ayton is at the top in some order (my suspicion is that it is Doncic 1 and Ayton 2)

And then they are not enthused with the remaining options at the Center.

I am not buying this. Don't get me wrong, I like Capella, but he is a one-way player. I am not sure I'd be offering a max contract to him. Assuming Bender works out, Capella/ Bender combo at 4 and 5 sounds very good defensively, but I don't know that I would tie up 20-30% of my salary into Capella.

There is absolutely no way that the Suns should make any decisions based on the "assumption" that Bender works out.

His advanced stats are crazy.

#5 in Rebound %. 25 PER. 10 win shares. #2 in block percentage. Still gets you 14 a night.

He is basically poor man's Mutombo.

If we got Trae Young or Doncic, I think Capella would be a great and NEEDED anchor in the middle. But let’s see if he’s neutralized in this series before talking MAX deals.

We don't even know where we're picking, free agency is after the draft, Capela will almost certainly get matched... this all reeks of a board writer desperate for clickbait.

Furthermore, these are not the leak filled Suns from the Blanks years. Good or bad, we've rarely had an idea what roster moves the Suns were going to do more than 20 minutes out from them taking place.

Possibly... also, agents float this kind of stuff all the time to inflate the market for their FA-to-be clients. It would be easier to take seriously if we were a week past the end of the season and the draft.

It all sounds like speculation to me otherwise it would be tampering as previously noted.

I am not sure where they pick matters here if they aren't liking Bamba or Bagley.

Young will certainly be there at 4 so the plan can be Ayton, Doncic, or Young.

A poor man's Mutumbo is not worth a max.

Unfortunately it is to us. We will have to overpay for any free agent. It is just the reality of the state of this franchise.

But it's almost standard operating procedure. Teams are willing to pay crazy money because 1) They don't want the team to match 2) They don't have to trade talent away

I dont think this is a bad move.

Good. These super teams need to be pressed. If you can't beat them, tear them down piece by piece or at the very least put them in luxury tax hell.

The Rockets have 78 million in salary next year with an expiring CP3. Add 30 million for him and they are over the cap. A Max for Capela would be the baby max. 25K I think, but that will easily put them into Lux tax range.
