Happy Birthday, dude. Nothing like signing an NBA deal on your birthday. He had 2 years and $6 mill left on his deal in Russia. Left that to play in the NBA.

Had one high ranking NBA front office guy not from Phoenix tell me he thinks Sonny Weems will be a surprise that he's pretty damn talented

John Gambadoro ‏@Gambo987
Had a second High Ranking NBA exec tell me Sonny Weems was overly athletic for Europe and is an upside player given dearth of NBA wings

Razorback Nation ‏@RazNation
For context: Weems was the highest paid player in Europe. Left around 3 mil/ a year on the table w/ CSKA Moscow. Was on contract through '17

John Gambadoro ‏@Gambo987
2nd exec also said Weems shot is just ok, he's long and athletic is a bit soft and can be moody but has playmaking elements on off and def

Watched him a few times during his Raptor days and he's nothing to write home about. He's similar in concept to PJ Tucker with more athleticism but less brute strength and tenacity. Ok/passable 3 point shooting, disaster when handling the ball too much.

That's what I remember.

He has been in Europe for quite a while and developed into a star over there. Said he had to change his game alot because the slower game doesn't mesh well with his athleticism.

Shot 39% from the 3.

Shooting guard Sonny Weems' two-year, $5.8 million deal with the Suns has a second-year team option.

Ok. I wanted them to bring Bogdan in. They leave him in Europe and bring this guy in. Fine. Looks like a great athlete who developed an all-around game in Europe. Not sure about his defense. NO ONE even talks about that.

He is mature but not old. And there is some interest in seeing how his improved game transfers to the NBA.

So the backcourt situation is now:

Bledsoe
Knight
Booker
Goodwin
Price
Weems

I think it's a foregone conclusion that Ggreen is not going to be resigned, and it still looks a bit heavy back there. Another deal coming?

Raptors fans believe Weems is better than Green, and his game has improved in Europe. Mildly intrigued in watching this guy. Might be another PJ Tucker type of find.

It was clear back in March when the Suns sent Green on an extended run at the end of the bench that he wouldn't be back.

I doubt they've had any conversations at all with his agent. And good, because other than the rare game when he gets hot, he is a terrible player.

As for the guard depth, Booker is 18, its extremely rare that anyone is NBA ready at that age, I doubt he sees much PT, especially early in the year. Price will probably play sparingly, Goodwin will have to have shown serious improvement over the Summer to solidify a spot in the rotation.

Another undersized SF? If he's a SG that's even worse considering we have Knight, Booker, Goodwin and Bogdanovic all at that same position.

Does he have 4 fingers on one hand?

Why do people keep bringing up Bogdanovic when talking about depth? He is in Europe, he is not on this roster, he will not be on this roster for at least one more year, probably 2.

Bogdanovic is coming? Since when?

Good grief. He is a wing. He plays the 2 or 3. He adds depth where it was needed. He also brings veteran leadership. Its hard to get a player with team leadership experience who is either not so old that he can no longer contribute, or so expensive that he is out of budget.

Its only a 1 year commitment and they have to fill out the roster anyway. Can't see a downside here.

Totally agree, bottom line is that he is the replacement for Green.

Maybe this sits up a Tucker trade.

Maybe this sits up a Tucker trade.

Why though? PJ was a + last year and I can see him/Chandler scaring the hell out of teams.

If it's because of his DUI, I expect Keef to get moved to finish this purge of "troubled" players. I prefer to keep both but trust McD to get value.
