Dude averages 16 Rebounds a game. Rebounds are the one stat that translates well from college & D-League to the pros. I'm looking forward to seeing him in action. This probably means Lopez is going to be out for a good while though.

So I guess he is playoff eligible? If so, this is a smart move to get another big man in here. If he could just bang, rebound and play some defense he would at least provide depth. Collins is not playing as well as I had hoped. Tolliver at GS has played well out of the D-League. Also I like the idea of looking at him for next season.

I agree. If Lopez was feeling weakness in one leg he will minimally need rest and rehabilation for some length of time. There is no use putting his career at risk. From personal experience weakness or pain in a leg caused from a disc injury needs long term treatment.

Well, it does show a change in philosophy. The Suns are prioritizing size, rebounding and defense. In the past, Channing Frye with Amare sliding over from time to time would be good enough.

Suns invest extra money? It can't be.

He probably costs very little even if his salary is doubled because of the LT because there are so few remaining games.

At least the Suns have a team option on him for next season if he shows any promise.

From Paul Coro's blog at azcentral:

The St. Joseph's product is limited offensively but converted 60 percent of what opportunities he took near the basket. He is considered to be a strong, tough defender but might not play for the Suns if no unexpected situations arise.

Jones' contract will include a second-year team option.

Even if this guy is helpful can he stay with the team for the playoffs?

Yes they are signing him for the rest of the year with a team option for next.

Maybe also a sign of possibly rebuilding/tanking next year and this guy possibly being a cheap roster filler.

It's funny, last week I thought the Suns might want to add someone from the D-League and Dwayne Jones was the name that stood out to me looking at the stats. He has some limited NBA experience, but not much. I hope this doesn't mean that Lopez won't be back for the playoffs.

Just about anything's better than Collins at this point. Boy that guy has disappointed me. After a couple games earlier in the year, the game against the Rockets stands out, I thought he would be a decent interior defender/rebounder. Not lately. Sheesh.

This is the first I have ever heard of this site, but a decent little write-up on Jones:

Quick Fix: Dwayne Jones, Austin - If you're looking for defense and rebounding, which is what a quick fix would be called upon to do in most situations, I'm going to throw Mr. Jones at you. Jones has played in the NBA (Boston, Cleveland, Charlotte), was the A-10 Defensive Player of the Year, and is the reigning D-League Player of the Week. In the last week, Jones played four games, averaging 20.8 points and 16.5 boards. Not bad. Not bad at all.

Sounds good by me. I'd like for the Suns to give him some burn. He can't be as insignificant as Collins (who isn't getting enough PT, IMO)....

In a year without a first round pick, it would make sense to try to build the roster a little through the D-League. 16 rebounds a game is better than Clark did in the d-league.

Defense and rebounding are two things that tend to translate well at any level. So if he is as good of a rebounder / defender that people claim, he should be able to find a role if Lopez is out for an extended amount of time.

Sounds to me like they may be trying to prepare themselves for not being able to resign Looooou in the offseason.

It will be really interesting to see if this guy gets any time or not. I wouldn't read too much into the move, other than it's an insurance policy for big man depth if Robin can't get back. This isn't a huge investment. I am hoping he can bring some energy, defense, and rebounding though if given the opportunity.

Regarding Lou, I really love the guy, but his energy doesn't seem to be effecting games like it used to. His rebounding has been really hot and cold this season, and his defense has been as well. I love Lou and want to keep him around for big man depth, but don't know if he is a 15-20 minutes a night player like he is getting now.

That's because Amare, Robin, and even Frye over the season have all stepped up their defense, so that Lou's energy doesn't stick out as much as it used to. A good thing though.:D
