I'm both a Villanova fan (alum and season ticket holder living in Philly) and a Suns fan, so I thought I'd give you my perspective on Scottie Reynolds, in case anyone was interested, having watched him for 4 years.
He's not going to be a point guard. He's not a great penetrator, as far as dribbling through traffic to the hoop. Actually, he never impressed me that much as a passer either, nothing remarkable.
That being said, he's just a very productive player. He shoots well -- 50.0% in Big East play last year, which for a guard I think is rather amazing, especially when almost half his shots were 3-point shots, of which he made 42% (conference stats). He has a good mid-range jumper and picks his spots well. He knows how to draw contact when he goes to the basket and get to the line, and when he's there he's an 84% FT shooter. He isn't a ball hog or a chucker, he plays within the team. But when our team was down and needed a lift, it was usually Scottie who turned the tide.
Defensively, he's only ok, to be honest. He defends with a lot of heart and hustle, but he's not a lockdown defender by any stretch. His steals were usually chances he takes on passes darting into passing lanes, not pickpocketing his man.
He's probably the type of guy that if you watched guys play one-on-one, he'd look like he was among the least talented, but then put him on a side and his team would win the game and he'd be the best player.
He seems like he's very smart, a hard worker, very coachable, and knows how to take advantage of the defense when they make mistakes. Not a lot of raw talent, but does his job well.
Since every team needs to have 11th and 12th players who usually don't play many minutes anyway and are mainly practice guys, he'd be a good fit. He won't get into any trouble and hopefully his effort and determination will be contagious.
