I doubt it. They wouldn't trade JJ for Kyrie last year without an extension so I could see that being what holds this deal back also. If Kawhi doesn't sign an extension, no deal. That's how it should be. If he is willing though, it's something they should consider so long as they keep Ayton and Booker. Adding Leonard to that pair makes for a quality big 3. Kawhi also has injury issues that Kyrie didn't either, so I think any deal would require our medical team to sign off on it and I doubt they'll do that quickly.

from a practical standpoint, some might consider something like that
personally, i wouldn't give up anything of substance for Kawhi
i never really liked him. especially now that
1. he's showing diva/Drajic/Bledsoe signs,
2. he's showing Derrick Rose signs
3. his uncle/handler/supporters are questionable
4. we're not on his wish list anyway

5. a rookie coach is not a good destination for a problematic player. to get full value without it going bad, it would take a strong, experienced, widely respected coach like Phil Jackson, Pat Riley or GREGG POPOVICH!

pass

my preference is to go all in on the youth movement
with a post Warriors/Lebron timeline

i might consider jj in the mix for #2, #3, or #4
but would much rather trade unprotected picks

For the 1st pick is a complete Joke and Crazy Talk lol

Only for an extension, Suns aren't in a Win now mode, stock the Youngsters until the Warriors are done.

Much rather see them trying to trade to 3 and 4 and land Doncic
Is this guy an idiot! Doesn't he know that Leonard only has one year left on his contract? The place that might make sense is Cleveland. Leonard along side LeBron would work.

Maybe the writer is using the path of least resistance (in terms of having assets) to find a trade partner for Leonard. I'm sure Popovich would like to have the #1 pick.

Leonard is dropping in value every day and he's obviously a tricky guy to handle. No way should the Suns pursue him at any price.

Everytime some star wants out the media expects us to offer the moon and act grateful for the privalage.

For starters, star players almost never get equal value back in return. Then when they act disgruntled they get even less in return. Remember Cousins?? What haul did they get in return for him?

Then it's like...what do we get for scoring a superstud? More money spent and not even a guarantee of a deep playoff run.

We aren't in a desperate situation. The Spurs are more in a jam than we are. Our future is bright now just by staying the course. The Spurs can peddle Leonard now...buh bye!

Although not comparable talent, this is why I'm glad the Suns traded Bledsoe.

The most I'd offer for Kawhi is JJ, one of Chriss/Bender, #16, #31, 2019 1st, Miami 2021 1st, Milwaukee 1st.

And I'd only offer that if we had some sort of communication with him and assurance he was likely to re-sign.
Booker and the #1 are off the table.

Be glad the Suns are the prettiest girl at the dance right now. There's a reason we're listed in every rumor that involves a star being offered, we have the top assets to offer. In addition to that McD has said it many times over the years, the Suns are in the market to add a star player. Of course that star player looks to be Ayton, not Leonard, so let the media talk, it means nothing. At least it's not negative.

Another thing, we can beat Boston in an offer for a star right now, no one else has been able to say that for at least a year or two. That all changes once the draft happens though, most likely, because Ayton won't carry the same value the #1 pick does, for some reason, but that's fine. We don't want to trade him.

Yeah right. Most roads lead through the suns.

It's funny. The media plays every angle. They act we should throw the #1 at every star dangled in front of our face without rhyme or reason. Then they down play Ayton. It's like this...if Ayton or having the #1 pick isn't all that then why bring up the suns in every other trade rumour??

Sorry media. We aren't falling for it!

Sorry media. We aren't falling for it!

Our rebuild is essentially complete once we add Ayton. We'll have our "Big 3" to build around with Booker, Jackson, and Ayton. Every team needs a core of 3 solid players with All-Star potential if they hope to compete for the playoffs and we'll have that. Playoffs may be out of reach but that's only because our core needs time to gel and gain experience. We still have 2 young PF's to develop and we have 2 vet's of sorts at PG that should be servicable in the short term, if nothing else. We have TJ as our potential 6th man as well, or we could use him as our small ball PF with Ayton, Jackson, Booker, and Knight/Payton. We could even use those 5 in a small run and gun lineup.

At PG, Payton and Knight are servicable for 1 season, if we can't upgrade either PG or PF in free agency or by trade significantly. It's not ideal but Kawhi doesn't solve our PG problems either. If we went all in on Leonard we'd also still need a Center as well. It's nice getting attention but just because we've been out of the playoffs for 8 years doesn't mean we want to give up the #1 pick to pay Kawhi $200 million in an extension in hopes he can help us get the 8th seed. I'd rather miss the playoffs with Ayton, Booker, and Jackson but make progress with them as they build chemistry.

I like how Scott Bordow addresses big trade rumors for the Suns on Twitter. Whenever we see the Suns linked to anyone he says something, which is refreshing. I know he's not that "in" with the team, not like Gambo, but he does have sources and he hasn't reported anything notably false yet. It's refreshing to see a media member who is able to make sense of ESPN and other trade rumors out there, doing so from the Suns perspective. If you don't follow him on Twitter, I'd recommend it, heres his link @SBordow, I know people here post his tweets pretty quickly but it's tough relying on others to pass the news along.

Bordow is every bit as "in" as Gambo. I guarantee you that as the beat writer he knows WAY more than Gambo, but he has to sit on things to maintain his job.

The rebuild is not complete. I do think Phoenix will trade several assets to try and steal a star. Now RMD is no Jerry or even Burner Brian, but he won't draft 16, 31, Bucks and Heat. I think he will deal to get a players to compliments Booker and Ayton...Jackson I am not sold on as part of the big three, I'd even go as so far as saying his improvement this 2018 season makes him perfect trade bait for a young 22-27 year old star with control. Don't get to attached to Jackson and that Miami 2021 pick, they are likely gone and hell if TJ ******* about being a 6, trade his ass to get a real star.

Talk show guys are not really ever "in" teams use them based on audience. Gambos audience is the general local sports talk radio crowd, 23-34 pretty hardcore local sports but not all specialists to the Suns. Bordow is a niche leak, and possibly a diversion leak. They are both in, but the teams control how in they are. This idea that any media guy is in, is a joke, they are marking survey extensions to the public, that's how I wold use them for sure.
