Suns play at Portland for the third game of their four game road trip on Monday.

Trail Blazers (14-19) have lost their last 3 games with their most recent loss to the Lakers at home on Saturday.

Suns (12-20) have split games with the Warriors and Kings. Hopefully their win over the Kings becomes a building block for better things to come.

Game time is 8 p.m. MST (Arizona time).

It will be televised on FSAZ and NBA TV.

Ayton has missed 5 games this season with an ankle sprain.

He has played only 2 games out of 32.

And even when he is able to play, he will not be in game shape.

Which will probably cause less minutes until he catches up and
might make him more susceptible to injury (again) if he tries
too much too soon.

He'll be lucky to be a full-time factor until the last third of
the season. Which could very well be too late.

It is what it is, despite what we all want to see about the
role he'd play in being a difference maker, not in stats,
but in wins. It doesn't present too much hope.

There are not too many options. If the Suns could trade for a PF/C it would take some of the pressure off expecting Ayton to produce too soon.

Day to day for a week? Just shut him down.

From the outside looking in, it does not appear Ayton's ankle sprain is as severe as Ty Jerome. Jerome had a brace on his ankle and missed about 20 games. It's hard to know though as not much information is forthcoming about Ayton. Perhaps the Suns would not embrace the optics of shutting him down.

An update on Trail Blazers roster beyond Skal Labissiere being out.

Portland’s roster has been decimated by injuries this season. Jusuf Nurkic (left leg fracture) is out until at least February after suffering a season-ending injury last March, Zach Collins (shoulder surgery) is out until at least March and Rodney Hood (Achilles tendon surgery) is expected to miss the rest of the season. The team all waived Pau Gasol in November after it became clear that his rehabilitation from foot surgery would take longer than expected.

Monty Williams on Deandre Ayton: "He's progressed immensely. Every day, you feel like he's got a chance to get back on the floor. We'll see how he responds to the pregame treatments and talk to the docs and medical people and make our assessment tonight. We'll see." #Suns

Granted it's just video of him shooting, he doesn't look tentative on it at all. Get your bitch ass on the court.
Ayton is too big of a guy to be playing on a less than 100% ankle. Would rather he wait until it is completely good to go than risk re-aggravating it by coming back a game or two too early.

Yeah if we were talking about Rubio or Booker then I'd say play them but not Ayton. Bigs seem to go down for longer when they suffer any sort of leg or foot injury.

If Ayton feels like he can go and the medical staff sign off on it then they should bring him off the bench to make sure he's ready to return. No need to rush him back.

A sprained ankle takes more than 2 weeks to heal, and there’s like 50 games left in the season. It’s not wise to rush those back, especially for a 7-footer.

BTW - he was upgraded to “questionable” today.

I don’t see any reason to rush him back. When he is fully healthy they’ll put him back in the lineup.

Dislike! :)

Shootaround is a lot different than game conditions.

Especially with him having played two games all season.

I want him back when he is 100%. Because even that
will not be 100%, considering players who have been
on the court during the first quarter of the season.
