Suns updates and discussion for the 2019-20 season

I know Ty Jerome should be a decent contributor when he returns but I do miss Troy Daniels. Of course our guard depth is pretty good this year but I believe he'd see playing time still since he was the Suns best 3pt shooter* over the last couple of seasons.


*Just to note I didn't look up percentages and basing Daniels being our best 3pt shooter based on his reputation, role, and skill. He may be 2nd or 3rd in actuality but I don't think anyone can deny he was/is a good 3pt shooter.

I'm not sure what the issue was with Daniels but he never seemed to find a role on the team. Maybe if he were more of a play maker or a defensive player the Suns would have used him more. I get the sense he is more of any journeyman player and it was time to move on.

Man, as long as that little footnote is , you probably should have looked up the percentages.

I wasn't even going to put the footnote to begin with but my luck hasn't been great today and I didn't want to start an argument over who was the best 3pt shooter over the last couple of seasons.

I did look it up after though and he was 1st in 3pt percentage 2 seasons ago while shooting 40% and last year he was 2nd to TJ Warren and shot 38% to TJ's 42%. I was going to edit out my footnote after I looked it up but I see it's commented on so yeah, it stays.

But does he have the mindset? So far, not yet.

If he can develop it, that would be great.

But if we slide when he returns . . .

Time will tell.

He sure as hell has more of a center's mindset than a forwards.

Sliding him to PF when he returns is giving up on the idea that he could development that mindset. He's 1 year into his NBA career and 21 years old, it's far too soon to say "This is who he is and he'll never become the C we want so we might as well start looking for someone else and move him to PF".

I think it's even worse than that. He IS less effective as a power forward, he has less of the required skills.

I doubt the actual organization is even remotely pondering such a move.

You gotta love Kaminsky just for his sense of humor, if nothing else. These guys all seem like a fun group with a potential for really great team chemistry.

Ayton had a really good first game with a 27.38 PER. I can't tell you why the number of games played didn't enter into the equation.
