I'm calling BS on those no step/max numbers from a Brooklyn work out. I don't think he could jump 38" if he grew wings before hand.

I want to see Ennis actually assert himself at some point. He's had a handful of decent shots in the lane in the last game and a half, but otherwise offensively I keep thinking Marshall.

Joe

I agree. I hate to say it, but I like Curry better than Ennis.

Christmas has been awful to watch the last couple nights. I know he's a great teammate and all, but he's not an NBA player. Would rather him be on the bench so we can get a longer look at some of the guys who haven't played in the summer league six years in a row.

Summer League is UGLY basketball, and the chaotic nature of it makes it difficult to evaluate someone with Ennis' skill set. However, even though he's not a great athlete, it's easy to see he's infinitely more athletic than Marshall was.

Goodwin is fun to watch, and can certainly score and play some defense, but the kid is going to have to learn to be at least somewhat decent at passing or it's going to really limit him in the NBA.

Plumlee looks a lot better offensively tonight.

Alec Brown needs to gain about 40 lbs.

Loved what Warren was showing the last couple nights before he took the elbow. Also, loved that he didn't even react to the shot he took originally. Seems like a tough kid. He's going to be a player.

Nice finish by Ennis. He proves he can get inside.

Completely different players. Summer League suits Curry's game much better, plus he's 5 years older.

I've attended the Summer League many times, and watched it every year. Score first point guards always fair extremely well, while pass first guards struggle. There is almost zero offensive movement, no one knows the system, it's 10 guys playing one-on-one against each other.

I remember leaving Vegas one year thinking Bayless was going to be an incredible NBA player.

I love Ennis' composure running the offense.

you mean bringing the ball up the court and wasting 1/3 to 1/2 of the shot clock dribbling 10 feet above the three point line every time he touches the ball? I haven't watched the last eight minutes of the game, but unless he started actually trying to make something happen I'm not a fan at all. I've had the same thought about Ennis/Curry since the last game, SirStefan.

I can only hope he does a Markieff/Marcus Morris. After the last summer league I would have given some second round draft picks to get them off of the roster.

Damn we are so unlucky with injuries so far. Len and Warren already out. Goodwin and Ennis may be next...

Does anyone else notice how Goodwin keeps blowing by his guy? He isn't scoring everytime but he is constantly the quickest player on the court.

It's kinda weird. Is everyone that slow or is Goodwin seriously that quick? Why can't anyone stay with him even when they know he's driving?

He's got that D-Wade/DeRozan type game. I really wish he could have got 20-25 mins per game this coming season but that's not happening :(

I'd recommend you watch the last 8 minutes of the game. Seth Curry was making a lot of shots but Ennis was running the team. I understand you are upset that the Suns did not draft Harris, but I think Ennis will be a fine PG in time. No way I would compare him to Kendall Marshall. I used to shudder when I watched Kendall Marshall play. This 19 year old understands the game.

Just out of curiosity, did you think he played well tonight? I mean, besides the eye popping plays, do you think we were better for his presence on the court? If you can't read between the lines, my answer would be a resounding no. As I said before, he's still not ready for prime time.

Nope. But I don't see him improving unless he gets minutes. He doesn't seem like one of those guys who can warm the bench for 3 years and then become good in their 4th year.

And he's got all the physical tools. He just needs to learn through game time experience to learn how to correctly use those tools.

I just don't see it. Every player in the world wants to scrimmage, every coach wants to run drills and such. The player wants to have fun, the coach wants to win. He has poor judgement, questionable ball handling and he lacks the strength to finish off his drives. He shows good instincts on defense at times and looks lost at other times. I worry that we have a 19 year old Gerald Green.

All things that can improved with playing time. As for his strength, I actually think he's gotten lot stronger from last season. He had a nice and-1 today on a drive to the rim finishing through contact.

Not sure why that's a worry? He was the 29th pick in a terrible draft class. If he turns out to be like Green, he would have a role off the bench and we would be lucky to get that out of such a late pick. I think he will be better than that, but I'd be ok with his turning into a backup SG.

Gerald Green is only 28 years old and has already played for 7 NBA teams, 3 international teams and 3 D League teams. And he really hasn't even been an average player for a full season until last year with us. He's been a tease for most of his career, incredible gifts but he didn't help his team win.

Archie has an advantage over Gerald, he has pretty good defensive instincts. I kind of wish he'd focus on that end and worry about becoming an offensive star down the road. But I can't look at him and say I'll be okay if he just turns into a backup SG. I would hate to settle for that from someone with so much potential. But he's so raw that we're going to have to invest a lot of time and effort to develop him fully. I don't think it's worth it for a backup guard.

I remember reading a pre-draft article at CBSSports or ESPN about Archie, predicting he'd either be the next Russell Westbrook or the next Tyreke Evans. I hope he can reach the Westbrook level but I see far too much Tyreke in him right now. And a raw Tyreke at that. I still love his potential and it would be great to have the 29th pick become a star but he still has quite a ways to go from what I've seen in the summer league so far.

But keep in mind I'm just mostly contesting the idea that he should play 20 to 25 minutes a game this season. I don't think he's earned that time and I don't think he needs game time to improve.

Yeah, I was just thinking about Green as he has performed with the Suns. So if Goodwin does have a Green career, at least he'll move on to many other teams. :)

I agree, Goodwin is not ready for a nightly role on the team. He'll likely get spot duty here and there and will likely only see the court due to an injury by other guards. I like Goodwin, but my expectations are pretty low. I suppose that's true for all the draft picks on the team. McD IMO has drafted for potential, not because any of them are NBA ready. All of them have the chance to be better than where they were selected, but than all of them could be out of the league in a few years.

Of all of them though, I think Goodwin might be the most high risk/high reward of the bunch. He really does have superstar potential but right now it's still at the coach-killing stage. If we hadn't got lucky with Bledsoe and Green along with Keef's development we'd be the lottery team for a couple of years that we expected to be. In that situation, we'd probably pin all our hopes on Goodwin and sink or swim with him. I think he has a better chance of approaching his potential the way we're doing it now.

Am I one of the few who believes in Goodwin, and if he gets some regular playing time he'll perform well and increase his performance?

Goodwin's quickness is ridiculous but his problem seems to be that he's trying to go 110% all the time which leads to him often losing control. Hopefully, once his game matures, he'll start using his quick first step more as a change of pace and his whole game will become more effective

Observations:

Miles Plumlee is a center. Any thoughts of playing him at the pf should be discarded. He defends centers better. He plays better as the biggest man on the court and seems to have trouble with his spacing if there is another big man around him. Plumlee just looked so much more comfortable in this game.

Archie, well, doesn't look like his game has matured very much since last year. I was hoping for a little more control and a little more leadership. He has all the quickness and talent in the world.

You're right. Plumlee looked so much better at the center spot yesterday. I think those of us (me) that dreamed he could eventually move into the power forward position need to find a new dream.

Archie seems to have the same problems as he did last season. He makes highlight plays and I wouldn't even be shocked if he ended up on the All Summer League team (do they have one?) but his team usually suffers while he's on the court. He's a shiny trinket. If I knew my ship was going to crash onto the shores of an undiscovered island populated by bad GM's, I'd take a crateful of shiny little Goodwins to trade with the natives. I'm sure they'd be impressed by his incredible first step and overall athleticism. But if I wanted to win a basketball game, I'd hand Archie one of those round orange Spaldings and tell him to go next door and work on his game.

17 assists (great), by the way, on 44% shooting (not so great).

I guess second game/hitting shots helps?
