Ball certainly looks like the difference maker some of us thought he'd be. I still hope for the lakers' sake that he's not it very good once real games start

My thoughts exactly but Ball does look like the real thing.

He reminds me of a MLB pitcher that no one has watched film on. The guy looks good early but then when everyone sees all his pitches they figure him out.

I think Ball will light it up early with stats. Then once good defenders catch up on film and see that he's limited offensively they'll slow him down. He'll always get good assist and rebound numbers. He'll be marred with an inconsistent FG%. He'll get eaten alive defensively. He still has absolutely no mid range game. Seriously, did anyone see him take one mid range shot in SL?

And I still think he'll be minimized in the playoffs in a half court set.

Ball's play since he sat out the Sacramento game shows he's troubled by good defenders. He wasn't injured, he didn't want to play against Fox.

It's quite simple really. If the reason he didn't play that game was actually because of injury the Lakers would have shut him down for the rest of SL. The fact that he played again a day later tells me he wanted to avoid Fox.

That is exactly what I thought. Kind of odd that it's been glossed over by fans and the media though and they've focused on his stat lines since then, which have been impressive, but that missed games stands out like a sore thumb. Especially to those who pay attention and are neutral. I don't dislike Ball, I would have liked for the Suns to have picked him had we gotten the #2 pick but I didn't want to give up assets to move up for him when we stood to get Jackson where we were.

They're in the same division?

And they'll be playing with their full teams during the season. If Ball gets shown up by Fox during the regular season they can brush it off because the Lakers should still walk away with the W. Even if Fox dominates Ball during each regular season meeting, the talent discrepancy between the two teams is enough that the Lakers should be able to beat the Kings easily. The win will be all that matters. Meanwhile shutting him down after a slow start to Summer League could have wrecked his confidence and brought a ton of negative press on him before the games mean anything.

The Kings should be one of the bottom 5 teams this year and it's kind of sad because they actually tried assembling a roster to win or compete, they're not built as a tanking team. During the regular season Fox may not even up guarding Ball either, depending on the lineups that are used. They'll probably want him guarding Clarkson or KCP to slow down their scoring instead of Ball, who isn't much of a scoring threat.

Final summer league game mention.

The Suns wrapped up summer league play in a game with the Kings on Friday July 14th.

The Suns played only three players of note, Davon Reed, Mike James and Derrick Jones Jr.

Reed had 17 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists. Mike James had 25 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Derrick Jones Jr. had 14 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist.

A lot of people (including Suns fans) kept saying this about Jason Kidd.

Yet, he did lead the New Jersey Nets to the NBA final twice.

True. But the Jason Kidd in NJ was not the Kidd of Dallas or Phoenix. He was so pissed when we traded him that he went on a mission to prove to the world what he could do. Look at his stats. He went bonkers. Which ticks me off that he needed motivation to do that. He had every opportunity to do it here. So if Ball pulls a NJ Kidd in LA, then we're all screwed. If he plays like Kidd in Dallas/Phx then I'm not worried at all.

Even though Ball comps to Kidd offensively, he's not even in the same ball park defensively. Kidd was a great defender. Ball can't hold his jock.
