It was strange that the game should have been so close. The Suns shot 53.5% from the field to only 37.8% by the Heat. The Suns shot a sizzling 46.2% for threes.
I only caught the first quarter of the game, but it indicated one of the reasons the Suns victory was so close: the Heat had 14 offensive rebounds to only 7 by the Suns. The Heat outrebounded the suns by 4 and were net +3 on turnovers and took 11 more shots than the Suns.
Equally disturbing was that the Heat shot 36 free throws (and hit 30) to only 24 by the Suns who hit only 18. The Suns only made 6 more fouls than the Heat, so apparently the Suns fouled people while shooting more than the Heat did.
The Suns new style offense generated 25 assists and had six players in double figures. Marbury only went 4 of 10, but passed for 10 assists. Hardaway hit only 1 of 5, but had 5 assists in 20 minutes.
The Suns got the ball into Stoudemire who chewed up the Heat's big men with 8 of 10 shooting (plus 8 of 10 from the line) and 8 rebounds.
Williams had another strong offensive game, shooting 6 of 9, but only had 3 rebounds and five fouls in 23 minutes. Voskuhl went 3 for 4 with 2 rebounds in 13 minutes, but had 4 fouls. White was in for 12 minutes and had 2 rebounds. The Suns three headed monster scored 23 points but only had 7 rebounds. By contrast, Cabakapa hit only 2 of 6 from the field, but he did have 5 rebounds in only 10 minutes.
Marion had another weak rebounding night, grabbing only 3 but Johnson grabbed 8. Statistically, this might have been JJ's best game this season, shooting 7 of 13, 3 of 5 for three, grabbing 8 rebounds, dishing out 5 assists, and making 3 steals.
