Regarding Banks, he had a good offensive game, but he does tend to look for his own shot rather than distribute the ball. I don't know if that's what the Suns had in mind when they brought him in. I would like to see him pass more often and get the other players involved when Nash is out of the game. Not sure how many assists he had as I can't find the box score, but it didn't seem like too many. Barbosa, on the other hand, was unbelievable.

On another subject, the post-game press conference was brutal. The first question to Nash was whether he thinks that Maccabi would do well if they were in the NBA. Nash tried really hard to be tactful, but honestly what can he say? Maccabi is led by players who couldn't make it in the NBA. They simply do not have enough talent to compete for 82 games with NBA teams, not to mention different rules and everything. This is not the same as Team USA; the gap is much larger. I felt bad for him trying to answer without offending anyone.

okay - THAT was Amare - no fear, jamming on someone's head. With every game and every day he gets into better condition and more in sync with the club, the more my expectations rise... easy cheesy... there's gonna be setbacks... yes, I'm talking to myself.

Shawn Marion began to relentlessly attack the hoop

This must be a lie. Shawn Marion only stands in the corner and shoots his girly style 3.

Marion has been far and away our best player so far this preseason. He looks stronger and he has been attacking the hoop and also trying to post up.

he does look REALLY active and already in mid-season form. That being said, he's horrific in the post.

LOL note I DID say trying.

Actually I WANT Marion in the post all preseason. Marion really has endless ability, if he wishes to improve. Imagine if he could actually do something about his shot mechanics. Or if he learned how to work the post. Or if he worked on his dribbling/first step move. Or on his man defense.

There are loads of areas Marion can get better in and at least he is showing the willingness to improve the areas he is weak in.

Marion has always been solid and in shape to begin the year (save for a year or two along the way).

However, the pounding he takes game in and game out really tends to wear on him come playoff time.

And, for that, Marion will always get a free pass in my book.

"Maccabi played really well and gave us a real scare," Phoenix coach Mike D'Antoni said. "They are just very disciplined, and it's tough to beat teams like that no matter where they are from. It wasn't always pretty tonight. We had to grind it out tonight."

"We started well, but their third-quarter run really took the wind out of our sails," said Maccabi captain Derrick Sharp. "I guess we're used to playing 40 minutes and not 48."

"We played a lot better than in our previous games," said Maccabi coach Neven Spahija. "We stopped their fast breaks, but we couldn't stop their three-point shooting. To play 48 minutes is too much for us. We knew that we had to start well and that if we would lose it would be in the final quarter."

I didn't know Euro ball was 40 minutes. No wonder the Suns cruised for three quarters...

I don't know Chris - I actually disagree that Marion has endless abilities - he's got endless athleticism, but that and b-ball skills aren't the same thing. That being said, I WILL say this about Marion - and this is the highest compliment I think I can give ANYONE - the guy does more with his talent than I think anyone in the league does - he can't dribble, he can't post and is undersized and STILL gets 20 and 10 - that's pretty sick.

would it be great if Marion could develop those things? hell yeah. he'd be one of the top five players in the league - but he hasn't even shown glimpses of it. Can't teach an old dog (in relative terms)...
