This should be a run and gun game!

I did not get to see Lampe the last game and hope he plays a lot tonight. He has a chance with this high scoring Mavs team.

:)

Suns went away from Marion who got them a 10 point lead.

JJ simply looks awful. He can't hit a jump shot so he just drives inside. Call it Caseyitis.

What's funny about that is if Amare just let it roll out of bounds instead of touching it it would have been Suns ball.

Instead he tried for it, lost it out of bounds, and blamed it on Marion who pulled back when he saw it rolling out of bounds.

Mavs bench is killing the Suns.

Najera has 4 points and 7 rebounds and that doesn't tell how much he has changed the game.

Jamison 10 and 5.

Suns simply aren't boxing out. They went small due to the Mavericks zone and then BAM the Mavs are up by 10.

I sure am glad that Howard Eisley has as many shots as Amare.

Half time...Suns down by 15.

It is pretty simple why. The Mavericks are killing them on the offensive glass.

They have 49 shots to the Suns 35. That will lead to a loss every time.

Amare and Marion are playing well...everyone else looks like crap especially Casey.

That second quarter was a train wreck!! I guess I will watch to see if Amare gets his twenty!! Otherwise, barring a Zarko b@tch slap of Fortson, this is a wasted game!

I'm not sure how he singled out Casey Jacobsen. IMO he hasn't let any better or worse than anyone else other than Amare or Marion. In fact, he did take a three-pointer, so I would say he's playing better than several of the other guys.

The difference is obviously the rebounding 18-31 halftime. The other thing is the Suns are really struggling to score on the Dallas zone defense. Of course it would help if the referees would just blow the damn whistle for three second violations. They finally did get Dallas for it at the end of the half. I mean the Mavericks weren't even making an attempt to play an honest NBA zone.

Are the Phoenix Suns ever going to learn to work for baseline when someone runs a zone on them?

Suns 11 turnovers Dallas 3
Suns 7 off. rebounds Dallas 16 off rebounds

Casey Jacobsen 2-8
Joe Johnson 3-9
Barbosa 1-5
Eisley 0-3 in 10 minutes 36%FG as a Sun!! And 1 less assist per game but more turnovers in the same time than what he averaged in New York.

And Amare only 8 FGA? Well 9 including a buzzer beater attempt from midcourt.

Great game by Marion btw.

Finally getting to the line and getting assists.

26/10/8/3 only bad thing the turnovers.

And now get the ball to Amare he needs more shots and points.

Amare and Marion both tied their career high in assists right now.

-------

Amare still with no more FGA, Johnson 5 turnovers , Marion 4 turnovers, Jacobsen 4 turnovers. Dallas 22 offensive rebounds!

Najera has 5 steals. I think all against Jacobsen and Johnson and almost all in the 4th quarter.

Stoudemire has been on 9 FGA for a long, long time. How long has he gone without a shot attempt?

Great.

Only 19 for Amare. No FGA in the last 16+ minutes or so unless you count the buzzer beater attempt at the end of the third.

Amare Stoudemire needs to find a balance between being a good passer and a good scorer. It's as if he can only do one or the other. He was looking to pass the ball before the double-team meeting came over to him instead of going strong to the basket.

Joe Johnson's outside shot has officially gone bye-bye again.

I will note though that JJ was basically the PG this game. Barbosa and Eisley played like 20 minutes combined while Casey got major minutes in the backcourt with JJ.

Hopefully Vujanic will be as good as advertised.

joe everytime that amare got the ball it was way out, or in a bad spot. i stopped watching the game in the fouth after watching a jj pass to amare up high with nahera on the same side as the pass came in agian. this game started with amare and marion eatting up dallas and then lets stop going to them.

Scotsman,

For the most part Amare Stoudemire was getting the ball in the same area he usually does. However on other nights he would drive and spin on his defender or defenders all the way to the basket. Tonight he was looking to pass the ball as soon as he got it.

The Mavericks are very very good at home. They shoot, move without the ball, and are very agressive on the offensive glass. It was not surprising the Mavs won, but It thought the Suns would play better.

I did have a couple of observations:

First, the Suns continue to struggle against zones. The Suns had a lot of turnovers when the tried to force the ball into Amare. The Suns interior passing looked bad, although I will give them credit for trying.

They looked better in the second half when Jacobsen was in, because the Mavs were reluctant to leave him open. The Suns actually got to within 9 points, but then could not stop the Mavs shooting.

Second, JJ was the point guard through most of the second half. He made some mistakes but did better than either Barbosa or Eisley. The Suns have experimented with using JJ at point in the past, but maybe they are serious about it now. We may have seen the last of Eisley. He was in when the Mavs built their big lead and looked terrible again.

JJ still hasn't learned that it is OK to just carry the ball through the paint like a halfback since the refs rarely call traveling. He hit a couple of long jumpers near the end, but overall he needs to drive to the basket when there are defenders on him.

The Suns have to get more agressive on the boards. It isn't just blocking out, it is attacking the ball and not just waiting for the ball to come their way. Harvey actually played pretty well because of his agressiveness.

Jake had another anemic performance: one rebound in 14 minutes with 4 personal fouls. By contrast, Harvey had 7 rebounds and 2 blocked shots in 8 minutes.

None of the rookies showed much. Lampe looked very tentative, Cabakapa lacked agressiveness, and Barbosa had his second bad game in a row. Dice seemed very tentative in four minutes and White did not play.

The Mavs only shot 41.7% from the field and only 20% for three while the Suns shot 45% from the field. But the Mavs outreboudned the Suns by 9 and generated 19 turnovers. The bottom line is that the Suns did not play hard enough or smart enough to beat the Mavs. :(

Not a good game for the Suns besides Marion.

I would like to think these last few games were a learning experience for the Suns. They have played some of the top teams in the west as they are tuning up for the playoffs.

Maybe the young guys can learn the effort and intensity it take to be successful in the league. I wish we could get more consistant playing time for Zarko and Lampe. I mean at least 10 - 15 min for each should not be to hard. 5 - 7 minutes in each half should not kill the Suns and we would get a better chance to see what these guys can do when they are a little more comfortable playing in games.

I would agree the best way to get Lampe minutes may be to start him. Coach can always go to Voskuhl, White, or McDyess if Lampe struggles off the start. Oh well, it's an idea but I am not sure it is a really good one. :)

Suns don't play again untill Friday? I would hope with 3 days to practice they come out playing well against the Jazz:evil:

EJ brought up a good point during last nights game. He said in the long run, Amare's injuries this year helped him tremendously. It allowed him to actually watch the game, and understand how things develop. He said his basketball IQ has soared because of it, which is pretty hard to argue.

One of the problems the Suns are rookies are having is that they are trying to learn so much that I think they get overloaded. This problem of figuring out how to teach players the mental part of the game is something no one has really solved, but that is what is needed for the Suns to be successful.
