The Suns looked awful last night. I actually felt bad for Casey Jacobsen trying to guard Tony Parker. Parker constantly blew right by him. This leads to one of the biggest problems with the Phoenix Suns defense. They are far too aggressive on the perimeter for a team without a good defensive frontcourt. Their perimeter players play like they have Shaquille O'Neal or Tim Duncan in the line waiting to block shots. They should have forced Parker to shoot from outside instead of playing him so closely on the perimeter.
As bad as the Phoenix Suns were, the San Antonio Spurs were making every shot they threw up there. I mean Robert Horry and Malik Rose made of multiple perimeter shots when they were very well defended. That's not the reason the Suns lost, but it contributed to the lopsided score.

The Suns don't seem to have recognition of who they are playing. Turkoglu shoots better from the three point arc (45.5%) than he does inside (41.9%). By contrast, Parker shoots only 32.2% from outside the arc, but has a 45.1% overall because he takes the ball to the basket well. Yet the Suns overplay Parker and play off of Turkoglu.
One problem with the Suns perimeter defense is that they do not deny the ball to opponents on the outside, leaving shooters wide open to take jumpers.
Another problem is that the Suns lack court awareness. They get caught by picks and screens more than opponents do against the Suns offense.
None the less, it would be nice if the Suns had a big shot blocking defensive center who could play Duncan one on one and keep drivers out of the lane.
