Probably about as close as you can get and not get gouged by the hotel.

The paper had a story this week that said if you use Expedia today you can stay at the Vagabond Inn for 89.95. If you try to stay there before the Superbowl, the price is over 500 bucks.

Just for kicks the cheapest hotel on Expedia in the area is Bella Vista Inn at 288 a night. The next cheapest is Vagabond at 488. I know Bella Vista well I helped a friend get a room there not that long ago a few times for business trips, cheap motel but safe. He was paying between 70 and 80 a night so it's 4X the normal. Vagabond is 5X.

Where I live they already passed out fliers reminding us it's against our rules to rent out our place, and anybody caught doing so is violating a signed agreement. Not clear what the outcome would be, maybe a fine, I don't think they can require you to sell your house.

I've been to 2 Super Bowls - San Diego/SF in '94 (Jan '95) and Seahags/Steelers in '06 (Feb '07). Both were corporate trips, fully paid for. I'd NEVER go on my own dime, not even to see the Cardinals. The costs are beyond astronomical, and the NFL controls EVERYTHING. In Detroit, when they went to find a steak house to host our Saturday dinner (for a total posse of about 60 people), one joint wanted $25k extra - on TOP of all OTHER charges, just because it was SB weekend! Funkdat. The game itself winds up being anti-climactic. We paid $4500 apiece for the Detroit tickets (40 yard line, spectacular seats). Can only imagine what similar seats would sell for in Santa Clara this year.

If you want to go, that's awesome - just be prepared to be separated from insane amounts of cash, everywhere you go.

We are lucky in that my mom traveled a ton for work in the last year so she had a ton of Southwest points (she actually traveled so much she got a companion pass) as well as Hilton points. She found a Doubletree that would actually let her book that weekend with points about 12 miles from the Stadium in Fremont. We wouldn't be able to go otherwise.

I also think because of how spread out everything is it will be easier to find normally-priced restaurants.

The stadium is just off Tasman and Great America. Tasman will be closed game day. I live about 4 blocks north of there off Tasman

Excellent! If you're out buying snacks for everyone when we arrive..... leave the key under the mat.

Sooooo since there appears to be no tailgating allowed, you're hosting the official ASFN pregame party at your house since you are the closest to the stadium, right?

I'll add....going to Tampa and losing....made spending all that money felt much like a waste. While we had fun all the way up there and the days prior....from leaving the game to the flight home and even the drive home SUCKED! Not worth spending 5K for again.

I've had lots of people tell me I could make thousands letting people stay there before the game.

I won't even be home I'm house/dogsitting for my sister.

I just wanted to make sure people get this isn't like a normal game, things you can do before a normal game are not allowed before a Super Bowl.

Would hate to see someone spend all that money fly out, get drunk and then not be allowed into the game.

Anybody that intends to drink before they go definitely be smart, I'm hearing they are going to do big crackdowns both on DUI's and public drunkenness, that means if they think you are drunk, they will not let you in the game.

Are you saying I could be denied entry for being drunk?

Yep.

I haven't gone to a game stumbling drunk in a long time. I'm usually 3-4 drinks in the hour before the game anymore. Plus my mom will be there so I have to somewhat behave. Like the time I made her try four loko before we played the Cowboys on Christmas.

Pregame? That barely gives him time to get to know us.

Dibs on the couch! :) I'll bring my own pillow.

that's what they're saying in the local media. That they will have security personnel watching for signs of "public drunkenness" and that people will be refused admission to the game in that scenario.

I have no idea what that means, tipsy or falling down drunk, but that's what the media is saying.

Considering the problems they have been having with drunk 49ers fans, I am not surprised. I have been looking at everything Super Bowl week, ie the events and everything going on and frankly the experience looks to be pretty unimpressive compared to all the stuff that was going on in Phoenix last year, in particular all of the parties, events and concerts. There isn't a single event I even have a remote interest in attending outside of the NFL Experience.

Don't know about Phoenix but part of it here is it's so spread out. Much is in SF, then some in other places etc. So not a big concentration of events. Supposed to reduce crowds is what I've read.

Right now there are signs up all around that say NFL or something similar but otherwise you really would not know a SB is coming soon.

I can't afford the tickets so I'll watch while dogsitting at my sisters. I guess the nearby businesses will make a nice profit I just hope the Cards get there.

Not sure where the teams would stay but would be kind of cool to possibly see Cards players around town leading up to the game.

I hope I get to attend my fourth Super Bowl (88: Washington and Denver, 09: Arizona and Pittsburgh, 15: New England and Seattle), and to that end, I've prepared. Back in August, I made reservations for my hotel in San Francisco. On Labor Day weekend, I placed my $100 bet on the Cards to win (25:1 odds), and a week ago, I bought my flight to San Jose. The flight and hotel can be cancelled at no long term cost. The bet is a $100 risk. I'm ready for the New York New York casino to pay for an awesome weekend.
