In al honesty, the best showing I have seen by a rookie thus far this season has to be Joe Thomas. He absolutely abused people in the Cleveland game the other day. And whoever was doubting his run-blocking abilty was way off, he washing throwing people all up and down the field. I really wish that the Browns would have taken Peterson.

exactly - the FO put us in a position where we had to reach for need, rather than take best available.

I humbly disagree. I'm sick of hearing that we could have covered the OL in FA, when there is no proof that we didn't try to do just that. Who's to say we didn't offer up some nice deals to FA's, only to have them sign elsewhere? It's not like this team is a premier landing spot for FA's.

I tried to tell everybody he was the best player in this draft. It's too early to say "I'm right" though.

because they're terrible every year, right? and who's fault is that? it's all part of a viscious circle which starts and ends with the FO.

Oh, I agree there 100%. I'm just saying I'm tired of hearing people complain that we could have signed this guy and that guy in FA, when we could very well have tried very hard. We did what we had to do in the draft, and that's the only thing here we know for sure.

All good, cheesebeef... (man, now I want a philly cheese steak for some reason)... :D

Debating "this first round pick vs. another first round pick".....if we had picked that guy? Original! Go with the guys we got, or you will drive yourself crazy.

These are preseason games you guys are talking about. If they meant anything the Cards would've won numerous SuperBowls by now. Remember how Bryant Johnson has lit up the preseason the last couple of years only to revert to 3rd receiver once the games counted. Maybe it's just time to enjoy the fact that football is once more upon us and save the crowing over players until we are well into the season.

I don't get it. Why is it so cut and dry with some of you? We can't take Peterson because our Oline will stink? Huh? Are you guys suggesting that there was NO OTHER option whether in FA OR the DRAFT? Come on. Everyone knows that I am not one to really bash the FO for this and that, but some of you guys are living in a fantasy world to not recognize the immense talent that a player like AP is. Heck he could have come in and rode the bench while Edge got the crap beat out of him for all I care. We all know this is Edge's last year here.

Don't get me wrong I think Levi is a good pick and has a real chance to be good, but you can't tell me there was not one other tackle to be had.

Agreed... I think Wells should be there, but apparently Whis and Grimm don't and would rather stick with a guy who they're hoping can turn his career around.

Yeah, and Walter Jones wasn't the most acclaimed Tackle in his draft either. Didn't stop him from being a future Hall of Famer. Why should draft "acclaim" and status matter? Everything else I can buy.. But not this one. I think they have some pieces on the line, they have two very good ones in Lutui and Brown. I think they can build with that.

I would add Al Johnson ito that mix, he was rock solid last week

I'm 10th in line to be the King of England. What, you have no 'proof' that I'm lying, so there's a pretty good chance, right?

Oh wait...you mean you haven't actually SEEN solid evidence that I'm in line to be king? My bad. There's nothing for me to hang my hat on to help prove that? My bad.

So I'm just going to assume there's nothing for you to show saying we tried to offer nice deals to other FA OTs, 'kay?

The problem with looking thru your rear view mirror when you drive is that you're likely to crash into a light pole.

i'm glad someone else started this thread, but I agree Clif. I think Brown over Peterson will end up being Big over LT all over again. Kid's gonna be a mega-stud.

No one pimped Peterson over Brown more that I. The decision to pick Brown over Peterson is going to haunt us for the next decade. Brown will be Rolle part 2, IMO.

Tampa Bay would have taken Thomas at 4

First, let me say that I wanted peterson too, I would have been fine w/ getting Blalock in the second round and would have loved the chance to get Jared Gaither from the supplemental draft. However, over a ten year period I feel that we have done better for ourselves because there is no way in the world that I see Peterson still being good in 10 years. The bottom line is that running backs are usually good for 4 years and that is it. You may have the execption that will go 6 but that is about it. With his running style it will be near impossible for him to stick around too long. The truth is that teams need to build from the inside out. A RB should be the last piece of the puzzle to add IMO. I still would have liked to see peterson in red and white, but not as much as Joe Thomas.

You dont know that. Their Oline right now is great. By far the best since Gruden has been there. Their D-line on the other hand was in pretty poor shape. If you are right though and Thomas was gone I liked Gaines Adams as well. We wouldn't be so worried about losing Okeafor now cause Adams would fill that OLB role beautifully. Overall, I am happy thus far w/ Brown, I am just bored and feel like conversating.

I should have said " In my opinion Tampa would have taken Joe Thomas. " My bad. Mike Mayock said Adams was strictly a defensive end and would struggle as an outside linebacker in coverage.

I think we grab our outside linebacker in the first round of next years draft. Over at NFLDRAFTCOUNTDOWN they have us getting Quentin Groves of Auburn with the number 11 overall pick. I have seen many other mock drafts that has us getting Derrick Harvey or Tommy Blake.

we'll see how he holds up, but AP's outrageous talent is undeniable and IMO would have been worth the risk for a team that needs to really hit the jackpot if it hopes to improve from oblivion.

Cheese I agree to a point but would you have wanted to pay Big the salary that he was going to command? We have Edge and he is certainly an elite RB in the NFL. I think with Peterson it is more of a durability question than how great he can be. Obviously time will tell but I think we have to get this offensive line right. I will be watching Levi close today.

I have little doubt that AP will be a star, but I think he'll be like Eric Dickerson, make a big impact but have a short career. Those injuries are going to take a major toll on him, especially at RB.

trust me-- had the Cardinals taken Adrian Peterson, that collarbone would have snapped in two by now

I guarantee that the organization was haunted by the Garrison Hearst decision. Similiar situation in that certain teams had determined that his knee was a medical issue. Other teams, including the Cards, thought it was okay.

Of course, halfway through his rookie season, the knee goes and needs to be reconstructed. Didnt really play much the next season as well.

Jeez, Eric Dickerson played 11 years and is in the HOF. He gained over 13,000 yards. If AP turns out like that, we'll really be kicking ourselves for not getting him.

Sure glad we passed on this injury prone running back. :sarcasm: Don't know if you guys are watching the jets v vikings, but Adrian peterson just put a nasty move on the jets... and then lowered the boom on David Barrett at the end...wow! I wish we had that kind of dynamic on this offense.

Levi was a good pick, but I wish it wasn't such a need because Adrian would be electric on the fast grass at UofP.

Flame away.

I am with you on everything but the bold print. We do have that kind of dynamic on this team, he plays WR and wears #81.

I don't think there is a person on this board who wouldn't want A.Peterson, but with JJ Arrington being a bust and the acquisition of Edge, along with the lack of any talent on the OL, it just wasn't meant to be.

I guess we will have to "settle" for an all-pro like Edgerrin James. :D

Just give Edge a chance and a little time to get his timing with this offense down. You will be pleasantly surprised.

As good as Levi Brown ? Not really.

There more I watch the Raiders game the happier I am with the draft. Levi Brown and Alan Branch are going to be a force. They may not be the guy racking up stats, and highlights but they will be the reason for others to have more stats and highlights.

Alan Branch did some REALLY good stuff in this first taste of the NFL. IMO.
