Who would of ever thought the Cats would make it to the Sweet 16? This has made my year. Big congrats to Pennell and the coaching staff. They have done a great job keeping this team together. And another big thanks to the players. The big 3 played a huge role but guys like Horne, Fogg and Johnson have also contibuted to make this happen.

Maybe the Cats can do what they did in '97 and shock the #1 seed in the Sweet 16.

How do you justify letting Pennell go if you are the UA AD? The guy is coaching brilliantly.

if wins over 2 BELOW average teams made your year, im sorry

No matter who would have won that first game of the day in Miami he had that post ready to go.

He just would have had a James Harden avatar instead;)

I was at the game and the Cats played well from wire to wire. Cleveland State didn't even look like they belonged on the same floor.

Nic Wise is the most underated player in basketball IMO. You can have Ty Lawson or Darren Collison and I don't care who gets drafted first. He is the best player on the team.

He has done a great job but no way they hire him while they can get a top coach who is a proven winner. Pennell will get a head coaching job at a mid-level school. He would be a good fit for a school from the Big Sky.

My question is have Gaddy, Moser & Hill all signed LOI's because their teams all got eliminated while U of A who wasn't even suppose to be in the tournament is in the Sweet 16. Could those three de-commit yet again and re-commit to Arizona? I still do not get why they decided to jump ship, they knew U of A would get a top tier coach to replace Olson and would get immediate playing time next year unlike Moser as UCLA is pretty deep, USC loses alot of talent this year, and Washington has Isiah Washington unless they plan on moving him to SG, but then again more than likely Wise comes back and I have a feeling Chase will come back too, Hill IMO is the only one who is declaring for the draft for sure.

lol here we go again.

What about one of the best ASU teams in recent memory? That didnt exactly pan out now did it.

Below average teams or not, they both won their conference and CSU did their part by knocking off Wake. A win is a win in mid March, no matter how you slice it.

Im happy for all the guys, but more importantly im glad that they are getting all the media attention and not the coaching search right now. It sure will help out.

Im sure we could all come up with hundreds of reasons for letting Pennell go.

1. Dunlap does what he was brough it to do, run the defense and set up strategy.

2. Recruiting.

Pennell is a great guy, but there is no way he can take over a big time program for multiple years, especially one with the prestige of Arizona.

Hill is the only one who hasnt signed and he is waiting to see who Arizona hires.

If UA makes the right hire a lot of things could go in their favor before national signing day, especially if some other coaches are fired or leave.

You must be registered for see images
. By the way how much does Harden not playing good really in the pac 10 tournament or the ncaa tournament hurt is draft status? I know I would not take Harden with a top 5 or maybe 10 pick he just doesnt seem nba ready after the tournament....

You may come up with hundreds of reasons. And you may be right about Pennell but you might be wrong too. And if you think the Pitt coach will find UA a more attractive job, you may be fooling yourself.

Who knows about Dixon but there will be a top coach who would love to come to the UofA. Great tradition, great facilities and great weather. Plus, the UofA will be paying a lot of money and the cost of living is not as high in Arizona as it is elsewhere.

Distorted perception or not - just like you think the brand Notre Dame carrys weight in football we do the same in basketball. This run is only going to help with the hire IMO. We are the story of the tournament right now and coaches at schools other then KU, UK, UNC, UCLA, and Duke would be silly to at least not consider the opportunity at Arizona.

It remains to be seen how it will all play out. But all those UA bashers who think that we are going to hire a mid tier coach (because we are not as great as we think are) are going to hate until the opening press confernce announcing the new coach anyway.

So lets just wait and see what happens. Right now we are still playing and ASU isn't.

That's enough for now.

Cats beat Cleveland State who by the way beat Syracuse who whooped on ASU. Enough said.

but ASU beat UofA 3 times who beat Kansas who beat blah blah. :mulli:

if you think UofA is better than Syracuse then you are really smoking some good stuff. Reality will come down like a ton of bricks against UL. cupcakes are over.

Jamie Dixon is not coming to Arizona and neither is Tom Izzo.

There are two others that are clearly interested and top the search by far. Its not far fetched to think that if UA can close Cal or Pitino they would accept the job.

Im not saying its a lock, but if I were to put odds on either of those two taking over Arizona it would definitely be over 50% for each.

You need to just stop posting. UofA might very well be not as good as ASU, but only one of those teams is still playing. So take your sour grapes and wait to spew them next season.

you spew sour grapes more than anyone.

all i'm saying is acting like these are solid wins is crazy. UofA got very fortunate that they were given Utah in the first, and that Cleveland St. beat Wake. let alone being in, but we won't get into that. a win is a win, i get it and you guys should be happy, but saying that this makes UA better than ASU is crazy.

Whatever your perception is of UofA, the fact remains that we are the only PAC-10 school standing. Now we could have shriveled up and lost against either Utah or CSU, but we played two solid games and won both convincingly. So far, we have come up clutch

Many of the naysayers are already saying that we aren't an ordinary average #12 seed and that Louisville should not be looking ahead.

Who cares about ASU winning 3 games this year, the Cats are still playing and the Devils season is over. This was suppose to be ASU's best team since 1995 but they didn't win the Pac-10 regular season or tournament, and then they get ousted in the second round. Meamwhile, this UofA team has an interim coach, players who have transferred or re-committed somewhere else, and they are still playing. It has been total chaos but they have made it to the Sweet 16!

Keep whining but I'm thrilled that the Cats have made it this far. I'm a realist and I don't expect the Cats to beat Louisville but anything could happen. That is why they call it March Madness.

As for Syracuse, they are a good team but I don't see them making it to the Final Four. If they do, kudos to them. I guess we'll just have to sit back and watch the games.

This is perfect coming from a fan base whose pants got wet over finishing fourth place in the Pac-10 and getting bounced in the round of 32. Although I don't blame you, it's that kind of season that Herb has been known for over a decade.

And another interesting note - Russ Pennell has been to as many Sweet 16's as Herb Sendek.
