I am now officially on the "trade up for Matt Kalil" bandwagon.

Trade up, draft Matt Kalil in the 1st, Amini Silatolu in the 3rd, Philip Blake in the 6th and Joe Long in the 7th. Your offensive line is now...

LT: Matt Kalil
LG: Darryn Colledge
OC: Lyle Sendlein
RG: Amini Silatolu
RT: Adam Snyder

Cut Rex Hadnot
Jeremy Bridges/Joe Long battle for RT w/ Snyder
Adam Snyder/Philip Blake back up OG
Philip Blake backs up OC

Young, cheap, and long term solution.

This still leaves us with 3 draft picks to address other issues as well.

Why does Minny trade down all that way? Are you willing to give up 3 #1s plus our #3 to get that deal done? That's why it would take.

I'm not going to do that for an offensive lineman. I love me some Joe Thomas and Jake Long, but they haven't lead their teams anywhere. And Joe Staley might be the 3rd best LT in the NFL, and he was chosen in the early 20s.

Matt Kalil is a really good prospect, but I'm not trading away the future of the Arizona Cardinals for a guy who isn't a once-in-a-generation type guy.

exactly what I meant to say, we have no second round pick and to move up would require a ton and I do not think Kalil is worth all that at his position unless maybe you where confident he was the next Larry Allen and still for the guard position that is a lot

Trade #13 pick in 2012, and 1st and 3rd round picks in 2013. Minnesota takes it because they have options with Reiff, Martin and DeCastro as well as increasing future picks which are becoming more valuable. Trading up to #3 won't cost what RGIII did because it isn't for a QB.

Taking a top 5 LT has now become the best alternative to filling that position. It is now cheaper than a FA OT, and can be a legitimate 10 year starter even if he tops out at avg like most at the position do. Trust me, if Levi Brown's contract escalated to 10 mil, we probably would have kept him.

I also have no confidence the Cardinals will draft the 2nd best linemen in the draft in DeCastro at #13.

But it took 3 #1s and a #2 to move up--what?--three spots? You're talking about 10 spots. If Kalil is so good, and it's a need position for the Vikes, why would they settle for Martin, Reiff (maybe), or DeCastro? They have less at the OT position than we do (nearly).

I don't understand why you mortgage the Cards' future to protect the blindside of Kevin Kolb. The plan should be to build the team so that your 1st round 2013 QB comes into a settled offensive situation. If we don't have a 1st round pick in 2013 to draft a quarterback with, then you're stuck with Kevin Kolb and John Skelton again next year.

I couldn't agree more and have been saying the same thing on here for some time. It's not we don't whiff on 50% of our first rounders anyway so in the end, we are saving a first round contract and just giving up a third to move up 10 spots lol.

You got to build up the hogs in front. Don't matter what QB you have behind the line without a line they will never amount to much. With the exceptions of a Manning, Warner, Brees(which still hasnt signed) who can quickly read a defense then dink and dunk to burn you. Look at the Patriots with Tom Brady. they already showed that with a good OL is what makes a QB. When Cassel came in and put up Brady numbers. Got traded to Chiefs and sucked. Give the QB time to work throw and even a Kolb or Skelton can succeed.

You also have to keep the hogs up front for more than 16 games.

The Patriots offensive line when Cassel started in 2008:

Might Light 8th year with the Patriots
Logan Mankins 4th year with the Patriots
Dan Koppen 6th year with the Patriots
Steve Neal 6th year with the Patriots
Nick Kaczur 4th year with the Patriots

Hell we hardly have any players at all who have been with the Cards for 6 years let alone offensive linemen.

The price to move up to #2 was high because there were multiple teams vying for the position to draft RGIII. Personally, I don't believe there is as much demand for the #3 spot now.

As for why I trade to get a LT while we have Kolb and Skelton? At some point, we have to be able to protect whomever we decide to put in that pocket. If our QBs suck next year, will will draft a QB and put him behind the same crappy offensive line that has failed so other QBs in the past. It starts with a LT, and the rest can be developed throughout the later rounds.

I get why it seems like a dumb move, but I just don't see how we fill our gaping hole at LT otherwise without paying a ton of money for average talent in free agency.

I totally get why you want to trade up to get an LT. I fully expect that you'll settle into seeing it my way in three weeks like you did with Carl Nicks and with Robert Meachem. :D

But this is what I don't get about these trade proposals: why would the other team say yes without offering overwhelming compensation? Why would the Vikes want the third-best tackle instead of the unquestioned best for just a third-round pick this year?

If Levi resigns -- I expect that will be it for the offensive line until the draft

knowing the Cardinals, I would expect them to reason that a line of: Levi,Colledge,Lyle, Hadnot and Synder "works" -- with Keith brought back to see if he can win a spot

I also think that if at #13 an offensive lineman they like: maybe its Decastro, maybe it Reiff --- they take him with the thought that Synder becomes the swing guy. If its DeCastro -- he plays tackle. If Reiff -- Synder to guard, Levi to RT and Reiff in at LT.

given their cap spot -- I would be shocked if they went Levi AND Bell

Draft DeCastro and have Snyder and Bridges compete for the r-tackle spot.

They've both played guard and tackle.

I expect that the L-tackle slot will be addressed in FA, and possibly the draft.

LT: Levi Brown - LG: Colledge - (C) Sendlein - RG: DeCastro - RT: Snyder

Key backups: Hadnot, Bridges.

@kentsomers: Looks like Levi Brown deal will be announced tomorrow. I have no information on contract terms.

Minnesota has been rumored to be shopping the #3 pick for future draft picks. That is where I got the idea they were looking to move down.
