Not great, but neither have any actual evidence of being "frighteningly uncompetitive." Both teams would have to fall pretty far to reach that level.
Suns - before last year, hadn't reached the PLAYOFFS 10 seasons in a row
Cards - one playoff appearance since 2015 - every other team in our division has been to the Super Bowl TWICE in the last 10 years
D-Backs - lol, Goldy putting up MVP #'s, D-Backs completely irrelevant

The recent history hasn't been good- I'm skeptical that anyone in charge of any of the big 3, (from ownership to management) are the right people to lead any of the local franchises forward.

funny, because both teams are suffering one of their superstars turning into a malcontent. more so with ayton, for sure, but kyler has had a rather dreadful offseason
If Kyler understood how to use his agent and the media, it wouldn't have been dreadful. He wants a new contract as he wants to get paid before the season where he is expected to improve on a playoff appearance season. The Cardinals, in kind of a silly manner, feel like they have to give it to him. Basically their organizational insecurity has created an inequitable balance between the franchise and Kyler. If they had any fortitude they would have said to Kyler to win a playoff game before demanding one of the highest contracts in the league a year early. They didn't and here we are.

yup, record breaking contract to be announced in the coming weeks, and kyler will be in front of the media happy as can be, "this is where I always wanted to be"

Straight to a ridiculous proposition without passing by the sublime.

Kyler can only guarantee his effort, and there is nothing out of the ordinary in seeking a new long-term deal at this point.

A new long-term deal and a new deal as one of the highest paid QBs are two different things. We both know that he wants to be paid like guys who have won meaningful games when he hasn't done that himself. The resume doesn't back it up either. No 4000 yard seasons passing. No 30 passing TD seasons. No playoff wins. No division titles. Unfortunately if that is what you want to be compensated like, you have to show the production and he hasn't to that level.

Mr. Rub and Tug has signed for $230m guaranteed, and could be facing a 1-year suspension. KM has his number and the Cards' have theirs. They'll likely meet.

P.S. the only reason he doesn't have 4000/30 is missed time. The 4000, I think we'd agree on.

Why wouldn't he say it? He has in the past.
because he's avoided the media like the plague for the last few months. if you don't think his agents letter was signed and approved by k1, idk what to tell ya. these guys don't operate independently.

This is where he should have been from the start. Unlike Chandler Jones, Collins is a guy who you can be creative with dropping into coverage off the EDGE. Also athletic enough to chase down plays from the backside as well as big and long enough to set the EDGE vs the run. No reason he couldn't be a more athletic Markus Golden.

However, you put him in the middle where he is unfamiliar and has to think and it all goes to hell.
I have a hard time seeing Collins be more successful off the edge as he could be in the middle, the only position he ever played. With Reddick there was familiarity there as he played on the line in college some.

But that is also a problem. Missing time is a big deal when you are undersized and have to run to be most effective. I know we disagree but if Kyler had come out and said pay me 40 mil and let's take over the NFC, I think the Cardinals would have rightfully jumped even if it is a year early. But when his agent starts throwing around Josh Allen and Pat Mahomes as examples of why the Cardinals need to give Kyle a huge contract extension a year before his option year, and they want a similar number, he just hasn't earned that. If the Cardinals just would have said, we don't hate the number but we need to see you improve on a playoff run that ended embarrassingly before we pay it, that is a fair stance that self-confident organization would have taken. The Cardinals aren't and they didn't which is why we are where we are.

Collins played OLB in a 3-3 in college so the transition is not huge. He would have to learn a wider variety of pass rush moves and counters, but setting the edge from off-ball, picking up backs out of the backfield, and dropping into zones are all things he has done. Playing on an edge is also easier mentally and very different from the middle.
