As the NCAA Tournament continues, each team's fate typically is determined by anywhere between two and four players. That certainly is the case for Notre Dame and TCU, which will meet in the Sweet 16 after also playing during the regular season. Whichever team's group of key players has greater success most likely will advance to the Elite Eight.
The thing to keep in mind though is how top-heavy each team is in terms of talent. If we're going to compare the Irish and Horned Frogs, an objective observer might say the Irish have the edge in this area. But that's why they play the games, and the Frogs already proved earlier this season that they can win this matchup.
Here's how the teams' leaders in the major statistical categories stack up. Whether you look at it from either a quality or quantity standpoint is up to you, but here's what the numbers say:
Hannah Hidalgo leads Notre Dame with 24.1 points a game.
Hailey Van Lith leads TCU with 17.7 points a game.
Liatu King leads Notre Dame with 10.4 rebounds a game.
Sedona Prince leads TCU with 9.5 rebounds a game.
Olivia Miles leads Notre Dame with 5.9 assists a game.
Van Lith leads TCU with 5.5 assists a game.
King leads Notre Dame with a .553 field-goal percentage.
Prince leads TCU with a .588 field-goal percentage.
Hidalgo leads Notre Dame with a .863 free-throw percentage.
Van Lith leads TCU with a .817 free-throw percentage.
Kate Koval leads Notre Dame with 1.7 blocks a game.
Prince leads TCU with 3.0 blocks a game.
