Brian, do you have a link for this ? I am just seeing 1-2 games with no mention of the type of injury. http://www.azcentral.com/story/spor.../?hootPostID=60e866ca8611b1e3657a3debba585d77

Looks like Berc is going to get some serious PT! Will be interesting to see how much they tweek the offense for him. He can get the ball deep downfield better than Kelly, but isn't as adept at running the option obviously.

Arizona State quarterback Taylor Kelly broke a bone in his right foot Saturday night and is expected to miss at least a month, multiple sources have told Arizona Sports' Paul Calvisi.

Kelly landed awkwardly while being tackled after a rushing attempt late in the third quarter in the Sun Devils' 38-24 win over the Colorado Buffaloes. The play ended his night and sent him to the locker room. He returned to the sidelines in a boot and on crutches.

The Sun Devils have this week off but are about to embark on a difficult four-game conference stretch where they'll host UCLA on Thursday, Sept. 25 and then go to USC, host Stanford and go to Washington on Oct. 25.

Even with Kelly, it was going to be a serious gauntlet and coming out of that 4 game stretch with 2 wins would've been a tall order. But without Kelly? Hard to imagine we'll grab even one victory... :(

I don't think it was on the tackle. Nobody on Colorado even touches his foot. I think it was the last step on his right foot in this gif. He came down too much on the side of his foot. I had a similar injury in high school. I jumped and landed too far on the side of my foot and broke 2 bones. I was on crutches for a week and then a walking cast for another 3 weeks. Even after I got the cast off I still wasn't allowed to run or jump for quite awhile.

We can beat these next 3 teams without Kelly

Home vs UCLA
@ USC
Home vs Stanford

SDS needs to be sold out and rocking!

Taylor Kelly may have a broken bone in his foot but Doug Haller, in article at azcentral dated 9-15-14, has a more optimistic return date. I have found Haller to be honest to a fault with fans.

Taylor Kelly's right foot injury will keep him out of Arizona State's Sept. 25 showdown against UCLA, but the senior quarterback could return sooner than expected.

According to a program source, Kelly has a chance to play Oct. 4 at USC. If not USC, the Sun Devils expect their third-year quarterback on the field for the Oct. 18 home game against Stanford.

Kelly's exact injury is not known. He injured his right foot late in the third quarter of Saturday's 38-24 win at Colorado. On third down, Kelly rushed out of the pocket to escape pressure. As he ran, Colorado defensive end Derek McCartney wrapped up Kelly around the legs, the quarterback twisting as he fell to the turf. Kelly got up with the help of a teammate, limped slightly, then jogged off the field.

Feel bad for Kelly. He has Mariota numbers, but does not have the hype he does. This was supposed to be is national break out year and he was on pace. Can't picture him as a pro QB, so I think this year is it for him. The timing could not have been worse for him and ASU football with both the teams in top 25 and being a Thursday night game. This would have a great spotlight game for Taylor. He has done considerably well against UCLA and the hype was huge. Now its kind of tapered off because of this. Not saying ASU does not have a chance, but the outlook is not good. Hope Bercovici can step up along with the defense. UCLA, USC and Washington are all beatable, but now we have to be perfect. I will be there next Thursday to see ASU pull off the upset!

I think you guys can beat UCLA, the Bruins have not looked that great. Even without Taylor, ASU should still be able to score and Foster will carry the load. If ASU's defense can hold UCLA to 21 points or less, I think you guys win. Being a home game helps.

I'm thinking UCLA puts up 40... And I just don't believe Berc can generate that type of offensive production. It could be ugly... :(

If Moeakiola is out, you may be right. If he is healthy and plays, I like our chances and think our D will be just good enough for a win. UCLA has given up a lot of sacks this year and have been very inconsistent offensively.

Bummer to lose Kelly, he is one of my favorite players ever at ASU. But injury risk is amplified when you have a running QB, and Kelly isn't nearly as threatening with limited mobility.

So here we go Bercovici. The guy has been the backup for 3 years and will get an early audition for next year's starting job. The early returns haven't looked great, but he does do some good things out there. He has a strong arm and from what I can gather has a leader mentality. He needs to work on his accuracy and making the correct reads.

We paid Norvell big time this offseason, so I would love to see him use the 11 days between games to design some plays the emphasize his skill set. Hopefully he adapts quickly to the starter job and most importantly feeds DJ the rock! DJ has been a game breaker early and we will need him to break off one or more of his 50+ yard carries.

Kelly was throwing in practice yesterday, but he is still walking around with his foot in a boot. They say he is supposed to practice this week, but I am wondering if he will really be ready to go against Stanford. I am no medical expert, but if he is still in a boot, even with the bye week, it doesn't seem like he will be ready. Of course, they aren't telling us the nature of the injury either.

Thoughts?

If I was an asu fan, I'm more concerned with how he's gonna play when he comes back. Mobility is a huge part of his game, and any limitations in that regard could make him a liability.

I agree. Putting him in the starting line up is a little shaky if he isn't able to run the ball. With a foot still in a walking boot, I just really wonder whether he will be able to pull it off by Stanford.

Any medical opinions out there? My foot was in a boot once for a stress fracture. It didn't work and I had to have surgery.
