Adam Bergen at TE.

After we signed him as a UDFA, I did some digging into who this guy was and came away hopeful that we might have found a "diamond in the rough"...... good size, above average speed, good hands and a willingness to pass protect.

I was not sold on Eric Edwards as a bona fide starter, rather thought that he assumed starter status by default last year. He'll be out for at least another two weeks and this is really going to hurt his chances to make the 53 man roster. He might make the PS team however, giving him another chance.

I assumed that Aaron Golliday would become the starter based on the fact that Rowen hand picked him while in KC and brought him over when he came on to Green's team. He knows a thing or two about TE's.

Bobby Blizzard had a very solid year in the NFLE but blocking is not his long suit and this is critical in Green's offense. I haven't heard "boo" about him as of now.

J. Bronson and A. Stokes are long shots IMO.

I would expect that Green will start to whittle this group down to four very soon. There are just too many bodies at the position to give anyone meaningful reps over the next three weeks or so.

I know that Bergen made an impressive catch against Dallas, but does anyone have more meat on how he has been in TC and as to how he looks in a pass protection scheme?

It would sure be a bonus if he earns a place on the 53 man roster considering he was flying below every other teams radar screen. I know he had a great combine, but any further thoughts out there?

Well the catch he made certainly helps. I like the guys size and seems to make nice catches. I will have to review the tape to see if he blocks well

Bergen looked good at Prescott. They weren't throwing a lot to the tight ends, but he had more catches than anybody, with no drops. It's hard to evaluate blocking in T.C., but Aaron Golliday is far and away the best blocking TE we have.

How was Golliday's hands?

Good post, Spanky. Bergen is the starter right now. What a nice UCFA find for DG and Co. He's a fluid athlete...with good size and hands.

The other spots seem wide open at this point. I think you are giving Eric Edwards short shrift. He's an excellent competitor and solid player. If he's healthy, IMO, he's a roster lock, and may still wind up being the starter, with Bergen coming in on passing downs.

The wild card here is Bronson. He's a short yardage TE who can seal off the corner. If he shows special teams ability...he might win the #3 spot. At the very least, he will make the practice squad...as will Stokes, who compares somewhat to Bergen.

The fact that Bergen, an undrafted rookie, is starting over Golliday and Blizzard, may be an indication that the coaches are not so high on them.

My guess: Golliday edges out Blizzard for the #3 and Bronson and Stokes make the practice squad.

One of the guys who observed practices at Prescott said that, on one play during drills, Bronson blacktopped one defender in a manner characteristic of Shockey.

This I gotta see. (It would be a beautiful thing).

Can't see taking up two PS spots with TE's.
