I think there are many players that can help us. If Thomas isnt there at 5 I wouldnt mind a small trade down maybe to 8 and pick up afew more picks and then take the BPA at 8. We could use DE J.Anderson, DT A.Branch, OT L.Brown, OLB P.Willis...

Any of those guys will help this team. I say trade afew spots back & let them fall to us.

Speed is never a negative...

But you have to get football players first, the speed part is extra.

I agree. We cant wait for the second round to get a tackle because Staley and Blaylock (who I love) probably wont be there. I dont think any other O lineman will provide good value there.

How about this draft:

Levi Brown
Tim Crowder
Tanard Jackson
Quincy Black

I like the idea of Brown, only because I think Thomas will go to Detroit or Tampa and the gap between Thomas, Brown and the other tackles is just to big.

But then you go defensively with the second pick.
Personally I do not think we are through upgrading our offensive line.
I would like at least one more added to the line. Staley, Ugoh, Blalock, Sears, maybe even Kalil.

Then you can start addressing other needs. For instance outside linebacker.
Make a trade down in the third to secure another pick in the round.
Go with Rufus Alexander, Tim Shaw, Justin Durant.
Then you can pick a defensive end for example like Dan Bazuin or even Tim Crowder. You can choose a defensive tackle like Quinn Pitcock or perhaps risking almost to lot with Marcus Thomas or you can secure another cornerback to the roster with Josh Wilson, Tanard Jackson or whoever fall to us.

I think we need as much picks as we can get, due to this being a rather week class which could mean the guys left in round three and some in day two will nearly be as good as the guys going in the first rounds.

Gandhi, you make me laugh. This isn't a board game. It's not that easy to get extra picks. Everyone wants them.

I call it the Madden Mentality. People play GM on Madden, make trades that would never happen in real life, then wonder why they can't happen in real life.

I get a kick out of some of the people who pen up scenarios where the Cardinals would wind up with extra picks galore, then use the "we should stockpile picks" excuse to defend it.

Trust me, when it comes to the idea of getting extra picks, you're preaching to the choir. However, to say "We need extra picks" and for the Cardinals to be ABLE to stockpile those picks are two different animals.

I am a big sportsfan so I sort of know how these things works out. I do not think my scenario is too unrealistic.

Yes, everyone wants the extra picks, but that cannot be used as an argument as to why we will not get some.

Anyway, just for the record I do not play Madden.

In baseball teams often trade players the year before they become free agents. With the change in the cap numbers seeming to foster more trades in football are there roadblocks such as RFA status to trading your players the year before their contracts expire?

Wes Welker and Matt Schaub were both RFAs who were traded. The deal with them was that a new contract had to be in place before the trades were finalized. That's generally the case with Franchise players who are traded to another franchise without the mandatory compensation of two first-round picks.

But the team doesn't have to re-negotiate the contract, either. The Pats traded (I think) a conditional 7th for Jonathon Sullivan last offseason, but he didn't make the roster. I think that he had 2 years left on his contract when he got traded.

Joe would obviously know better than I what the CBA obligations regarding trades are, but the logical ones seem to be pretty clear.

Thanks.

Trades like Welkers and Schaub would sure seem to be better than just letting your guys go for nothing.
