Say what you want, but this team is handling, what is in fact, a QB controversy very well. Because to the Cardinals, it is not so much a controversy as it is just supporting whomever is in there. There is no divided locker room that I can see/hear about or even assume about.
I love that Whiz will not address the issue until the issue needs to be addressed. Agreed. Why make the decision when the decision does not need to be made.
Now, why doesn't the decision need to be made ?
1. Kolb is playing well. He found his groove, he steps up in the pocket, he makes plays, and is not making a lot of mistakes. Winning makes things easier that is for sure.
2. The QB is not the most important position on the field for the Cardinals. That is 1/2 true. QB in the NFL is important, but on this team it is not like Peyton Manning and the Colts. This team is good enough to win in spite of QB play. The proof is there for all to see. The team has won 10 of its last 12 and whomever has been the QB doesn't seem to matter.
3. Our two QB's support each other, and have confidence in each other. When Kolb was told he was not starting he was upset (as you would expect), but stayed a pro, and was ready when needed. The entire team follows suit on this. They will support whomever is out there as well.
Skelton on his injury:
As for the whole situation of getting hurt just after he earned the starting job – and with the possibility Kevin Kolb might not relinquish the role even after Skelton is ready – Skelton was realistic. “It was a bad situation, but fortunately enough for our team Kevin was able to step in and he’s done a great job,” Skelton said. “All I can do is keep getting ready and stay in it mentally.”
I obviously favor Skelton as our QB, still do. But, how could I say Kolb hasn't done a great job, and doesn't deserve to keep playing ? I can't. Go Kolb! If Skelton gets his chance, I expect him to be ready, and deliver. But, as our Cardinals team has showed us all, and I am buying in as well, what I think is best is moot, all that matter is what is best for the team.
All I keep reading about is team, team, team, team, team, team, team.
Larry Fitzgerald gets 1 catch for 4 yards ? Team.
A player goes down ? Next man up = Team.
Bad calls in Seattle ? Can't worry about that, just have to worry about team.
Team. Team. Team. Team.
Why is that ? A good mix of youth, the right type of veteran player, leaders like Wilson and Fitzgerald, QB's like Skelton and Kolb, and the list goes on.
That is the advantage the Cardinals, IMO. A great team, a great mindset, that is centered around doing what is best for the team. Having one and only one goal.
