Boston Celtics guard Sebastian Telfair was arrested early today after police in Yonkers, N.Y. stopped him for speeding on the Bronx River Parkway and found a loaded handgun, according to a report in the The Journal News in Westchester, N.Y.

Telfair, who this week finished his first season with the Celtics, gave police a suspended Florida driver's license according to the report. He and a friend were both charged with second-degree possession of a weapon, a felony. He was also charged with a misdemeanor charge of second degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Both men are expected to be arraigned today.

i wonder how long its going to take before the NBA takes a stand against this kind of BS like the NFL has.

and also, what did the Blazers get for Telfair? because with his off the court antics 3rd string PG duties, the Blazers probably couldnt give him away if they still had him.

If Portland out ping-pong balls Boston for a top two pick that will make this even funnier. This seemed like a lopsided trade at the time it occurred as well.

Major egg on Ainge's face. He staked a lot of his reputation on Telfair. I wonder if this will halt the momentum on Rivers's extension? Ainge doesn't want to make another costly blunder right now when the heat is on, I wouldn't think.

Yeah, they basically chose Telfair over Brandon Roy. Way to go.

Telfair is also owed $2.5M for 2007-08 and a qualifying offer of $3.5M for the following year, which the Celtics will have to pay.

not the $3.5mil. all they would have to do is renounce his rights, and he'd be UFA after next season.

I can't say I've seen Telfair in a while. From what I saw, he was a flashy ball handler whose overall game left a lot to be desired.

From Simmons' mailbag;

Q: I think Sebastian Telfair may have missed the point when Doc told him that he needed to work on his shooting in the offseason.
--Mike S., Cambridge, Mass.

SG: Congrats to Mike S. for being the 100th reader to mail me this joke. And you know what? I laughed every time. Hold on, I have to whack myself in the head with a replica of Brandon Roy's Rookie of the Year trophy.
