No. 2 seed Tennessee (30-7) defeated No. 3 seed Kentucky (24-12), 78-65, Friday in the Sweet 16 of the 2025 NCAA Tournament at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Vols led, 43-28, at halftime.

With the win over the Wildcats, Tennessee advances to the Elite Eight for the second consecutive year and the third time in school history. It was the Vols' first win over Kentucky this season. The Wildcats swept the regular-season series between the two SEC rivals.

Senior point guard Zakai Zeigler recorded a double-double for Tennessee as he totaled 18 points and 10 assists. He was one of three Vols to score 10-plus points in the contest.

Chaz Lanier recorded 17 points, four rebounds and one assist, while Jordan Gainey had 16 points, three rebounds and one assist for the Vols.

Felix Okpara and Igor Milicic Jr. each scored eight points for Tennessee. Okpara also finished with 11 rebounds and one block, while Miicic Jr. had four rebounds.

Lamont Butler led the Wildcats with 18 points.
