No. 2 seed Tennessee (28-7) defeated No. 15 seed Wofford (19-16), 77-62, in the first round of the Midwest Region in the 2025 NCAA Tournament at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky.
The Vols led, 36-27, at halftime.
Tennessee's Chaz Lanier led all scorers with 29 points. He also totaled five rebounds and two steals. He converted 11-of-22 field goal attempts, 6-of-13 three-point attempts and 1-of-2 free throw attempts. Zakai Zeigler, the Vols' senior point guard, recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 assists, breaking Tennessee's all time career assists record.
Jahmai Mashack recorded nine points and seven rebounds, while Jordan Gainey added seven points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal for the Vols.
Tennessee did not trail in the contest. The Vols will play the winner of the Utah State-UCLA game on Saturday in the second round at Rupp Arena.
Jackson Sivills led Wofford in scoring with 15 points. He also recorded five rebounds.
