The 2025 NFL draft will be held, Thursday-Saturday, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin.

Prior to the 90th NFL draft in league history, Vols Wire looks at historical Tennessee players selected. This installment looks back at former Tennessee wide receiver Anthony Hancock.

Hancock was drafted in the first round of the 1982 NFL draft (No. 11 overall) by Kansas City. He is the highest drafted wide receiver in the NFL to play for the Vols.

Hancock played for the Chiefs from 1982-86. He totaled 73 career receptions for 1,266 yards and 12 touchdowns. The former Vol was released following the 1985 season.

He played for Tennessee from 1978-81 under head coach Johnny Majors. Hancock was part of Tennessee's recruiting class featuring future NFL players Mike Miller, Darryal Wilson and Terry Daniels.

Hancock was originally a running back for the Vols, switching to wide receiver during his first season. He totaled 106 receptions for 1,826 yards and 12 touchdowns, and also recorded 262 yards and two touchdowns on 38 rushing attempts. At Tennessee, he also played as a returner on special teams.

Following his playing career, Hancock, an Ohio native, returned to Knoxville, becoming a special education teacher, as well as an active member of the Tennessee Education Association. He also ran for a seat in the Tennessee House of Representatives, representing the state's 18th District. Hancock's bid was unsuccessful as he lost to Republican incumbent Steve Hall.
