Tennessee defensive back Christian Charles has entered the transfer portal to utilize his final season of eligibility.
He announced his decision on April 17. The transfer portal is open until April 25.
"Beyond Grateful for my time as a VOL…. KNOXVILLE HAS BEEN GREAT TO ME," Charles posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. "i’m thankful for my time spent. But I think it’s time to do what’s best for me and my family! i’ll forever bleed orange GBO."
Charles will be a fifth-year senior in the 2025 season. He played 30 games with seven starts over four seasons with the Vols but took a redshirt in 2023 after suffering a season-ending injury.
In 2024, he played 10 games and made 28 tackles, including two for loss. But he sat out spring practice while rehabbing an injury.
Charles, a 6-foot-1, 200-pounder, was a three-star recruit in the 2021 class. He played cornerback and safety for the Vols, but he was plagued by injuries during multiple stints of his career.
TENNESSEE TRANSFER TRACKER Who's in, out for Vols in 2025
Safety John Slaughter plans to enter the transfer portal, Knox News has learned.
Slaughter, a 6-2, 197-pounder, played in 23 games in two seasons at UT, mostly on special teams. He has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
In 2023, he made one tackle in 13 games. In 2024, he made five tackles and one interception in 10 games.
Slaughter, a native of Clarksdale, Mississippi, was a three-star recruit in the 2023 class.
In spring practice, he was competing for a starting safety spot alongside returning starter Andre Turrentine. But it appeared Slaughter was behind Jakobe Thomas and Edrees Farooq on the depth chart.
