The Tennessee Titans have shown increased interest in defensive linemen over the past few weeks as they continue to polish their draft board. This should come as no surprise; it follows a blueprint that new general manager Mike Borgonzi has mentioned throughout the pre-draft process of building in the trenches on both sides of the ball.
The Titans have a solid starting defensive line in place but could use some dynamic rotational depth pieces to help keep the defense strong throughout a game. The latest defensive lineman to be connected to the Titans is Texas defensive tackle Vernon Broughton, who Paul Kuharsky reports is being brought in for a Top 30 visit.
Broughton is another defensive lineman who has shown flashes of potential but hasn’t put it all together. Explosive and scheme-versatile, his traits will make defensive coaches salivate on draft day. During his college career, he has shown athleticism, a constant motor, and the ability to dominate, but he remains an unfinished product.
He enters the draft as a mid-round prospect whose overall production hasn’t caught up with his athletic traits, which gives him tremendous upside potential. If a coaching staff can unlock that ability and build upon his technical foundation and quick first step, he could quickly develop into a starter.
With the Titans already having a front three of Jeffery Simmons, T’Vondre Sweat, and Sebastian Joseph-Day, a player with Broughton’s profile fits the developmental mold that the organization has talked about.
